49 coronet runs good but won't start without starter fluid
Just bought my 49 Coronet and it seems to run pretty good but it will not start without starter fluid. Once I spray a little In the carb it starts right up. Any idea of what that could be? Thanks!

Does it close all the way when cold? How are you trying to "start" the engine without the starter fluid? Typical on a cold engine would be down three times on the accelerator pedal, turn the key while holding the pedal 1/2 way.with occasional pumps as needed. Archer |
It does close all the way when cold.
I have fried the 3 pump and throttle half way down method, still no good. It does this even after I drive it for a while. Once I shut it off, it will not start again without starter fluid. could a weak coil cause this at all? |

Unfortunately, it's going to be trail and error. Re: the carb, when you manually move the throttle, does fuel squirt into the venturies? What happens if you dribble gas into the carb instead of starter fluid? And yeah, how old is the gas? Arfcher |
Sorry, been really busy at work. I'm going to look at it tonight and I'll let you know. Thanks for your help so far.

Also gas looks good and doesn't smell bad. I just changed the inline fuel filter and wasn't horrible.

So I got home from work and decided to pull the carb and took it all apart. Turns out the the cold start primer was clogged.https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/moparfo...cc1d57c4bb.jpgCold start prime was clogged

Got another quick question. Can I get rid of the oil bath air cleaner and put on a regular air cleaner?
