stromberg replacement?

Searching to find out if theres a modern carb that will sit on a stock intake (230 cu in 49 Dodge) that would be more efficient then the stock carb. Also if the oil bath can be boxed up for a modern air filter assembly.
Searching the net now and coming up empty! HELP!!! haha! Doc.

single or 2 barrel? Carters are usually a good replacement The 49 fargo trucks had an air filter on the straight 6 still looks like a oil bath but is really an air filter.

Thanks I'll check that out. The current is a one barrel and I've been told if its a straight stack I can put a modern set up but if it "tapered" I can't! Not sure about all that but I'm searching and learning! Thanx Doc

i have done 2 one bbl to 2 bbl swaps. one a /6, one a flat 6. the trick is be sure the linkage does not lock at wide open. the details are rather long to post here. i did find a mod to the oil bath housing but have lost it. the guy used a paper element, it was kind or tall. and cut the housing, when done you cant see the paper element. i sent you a PM with my e-mail. send me a e-mail and i will send you my phone no and we can talk.

Thanx for the info, the carb is working fine and I will concentrate on a few other concerns and go back to the carb later.
Finding the best thermostat for Florida weather and the best antifreeze for this car is my day project along with ordering some mirrors and looking into a Fulton sun shade or a new repop of them. Doc

oh boy honey combe rad and your looking for the small thin edge thermostat. That should be fun you may have to go searching through a pile of new ones but if memory servers you want a 160.

Bingo!!!! Correct jacilynn_s// The 160 thats actually taller than the more modern 180, it has an effect on the extended tube that goes to the pump also.
I found what was in it on ebay and I believe the older styled (DV 3) is what the car needs!! Lots to learn!!!!

Should have my cosmetic stuff in a day or two;
carpet matts
mirrors
visors
steering wheel wrap

quick tune up'
oil (joe gibbs 10/30 (zinc additive)
MoPar filter
rear main seal
new hoses
points
plugs
rotor & cap
stat & fluid once I get the stat

Could use some direction about wiper motor!! I've had vac wiper set up more than I care to remember and I think this time I'd like to go with an electric set up. Does anyone know of a company that produces a unit that could mate to the 6 volt stock system?
thanx for the guidance................Doc.
