2000 Ram 1500 5.2l Sport Exhaust Question
 

Ok, I have a 2000 Ram 1500 5.2l sport, and im looking to bring a little life back into it. I was thinking headers back. My thing is, I don't know where to start. I am very mechanicly capable, and have a good friend who can pretty much anything.

Anyone have any recommendations?

DOes it just feel like it has no power now or you just want some more? A full exhaust will help it to breath out a lot better, with a air intake it would be even better. look into getting an MSD coil with accel plug adaptor and some 8MM wires, that will help on the ignition side. A set of underdrive pulleys will help out too. All very simple things that can be done to help get you some added HP.

Also, maybe think about flushing the tranny and filling it with some B&M trick shift.

A little sluggish off the bottom maybe, I have to really jump on it to get it to move.

I was looking at the air intakes, and a couple of them that I looked at, like the Airaid, looks like it draws from inside the engine compartment. http://www.airaidsales.com/AirAid-Co...akes-PRD2.aspx. I was thinking stock with a K&N and maybe a throttle body spacer. I was on MSD's website, and was thinking a MSD-6AL ignition, but didnt see a coil available. Is that what the accel plug adaptor is for? Friend of mine said to replace the O2 sensors too, even though they arnt coding, they probably arnt working as good as they should be.

MSD puts out a coil that fits the earlier magnum motors that you can use, hence the need for the Accel plug adaptor.

The O2 sensors could be part of the problem, they could have a bunch of crud built up on them causing them to not read properly.

A lot of the air intakes do that on that body style Ram. A throttle body spacer is kind of a waste unless you plan on swapping the dome intake out. They help out a little with the bottom end but not enough for what they cost in my book on the dome style intakes.

With headers, mack sure that you get a set that just bolt right in. They will be what they call short tube headers and are great for low to mid range power.

What would you recommend for headers, or from headers back? true dual exhausts, with 2 cats and 2 mufflers?

Where can I find that adapter at for the coil?

I've got that adaptor on my Dakota, I'll see if I can find the number.

As for headers, you'll want a set that has a 3/8" flange and some nice thick pipes (14 gauge). as far as header back, I'd go to an exhaust shopa nd have them fab one up for you.
