97 Ram falls on face

My 97 Ram/360 can't seem to get above 2800RPM. If I try to pass on high way it will kick down but as soon as i hit around 4K rpm it falls on its face. New fuel pump and pressure regulator. Any ideas? Is there a TPS on there?

First thing I would check is for plugged cat converter

Yes there is a TPS on throttle body.

I would knock on the cat though and see if you hear anything rattle around like mod381 said.

Happened to my 95's cat. Same symptoms.

If it was the cat, wouldn't you be able to hear it breaking up? If it got to the point of making the motor run like crap...

I vote for the cat! We had a shop truck with the same symptom and a new cat did the trick.
