4.7 dying

on my way home from work i put my 05 dakota in neutral (automatic) at about 30 mph. rolled to a stop. at the stop light hit the throttle nothing. engine died (didnt hear the engine radio was up) started it back up, started right up i put it in drive and went. so i played around with it a little bit. everytime i would put it in neutral from a cruising speed it will die. sumtimes the rpm's will jump from 400 to 800 but it will eventually die. come to a stop put it in neutral its fine. rev it up a bit in neutral its fine. it wont die unless i put it neutral at a cruising speed. check engine light isnt on nor does it come on before it dies. what would cause this? any ideas?

have you cleaned the throttle body yet? both it and the throttle position sensor have a habit of getting gummed up affecting idle, etc. also go in the truck turn the key back and forth from the on to the off position until the odometer reads "done" right after that the truck will flash any present codes. the check engine light doesn't have to be on for codes to be present.

i tried this and it never said done. i turned it to just where the odometer lit up. at least for a minute.on,off,on,off. then i turned it to where the whole dash lit up. each time about a minute or longer... im gonna clean the throttle body, ait senser and throttle position senser.. and got a exhaust leak and it getting louder drivers side i hope its not a manifold gasket. hope its the doughnut. or whatever they use now.
