Gran Cherokee transfer case

Hello All.my First time at this part of the forum. While driving my 2014 gran cherokee, a message pops up to service the transfer case. It doesnt stay on very long and its only happened a couple of times. The vehicle has about 89K miles on it and has been trouble free other than a thermostat. I scanned for codes and the only current on is a left front speed sensor.I plan to change that but, was wondering if the speed sensor is giving false readings to the transfer case controller. Is there something I should be concerned about here? Thanks

I'd be tempted to change the lube in the transfer case, it something that doesn't get checked as often as it should.

I agree on the lube change..... Also, Not sure how much you use the 4X4, but maybe use or at least cycle the system a few times. Could just be a Servo Hang up nit seating correctly from low use?
I think my point is it may just need to be exercised?

I am going to change the fluid and make sure the electric connectors are clean and secure. I normally leave the selector in auto. Just wondering if the speed sensor is sending false signals that affect the auto traction control and screwing with the transfer case.

Good Possibility, But you would think that if the sensor was bad, the light would just stay on all the time?

Does it have a high low / range if so have you used that to see if it operates?

Those often throw service transfer case messages when there are unlike tires on the Jeep. It happens also when you put new tires on the front or back. They spin at different rates. That has been the #1 killer of those transfer cases. A guy did a Youtube video just on that cause but i couldn't find it. If your tires match and have the same wear I would do what RacerHog said and exercise it with a fresh fluid change. The best ATF with fantastic wear protection is Mobil 1 ATF.

The tires were all replaced about 8K miles ago. I am going to do a fluid change and cycle the selector. This has a Snow, Sand, Auto, Mud, Rock and Neutral selections.
I have only used the snow and auto. I only found the speed sensor code when I plugged the reader in. There are no lights that stay on. The vehicle runs and drives fine, I am just trying to ward off any future expensive problems.

Good Point... I had totally forgot about the staggered tire issues on the AWD units....
