Cam and Spring problems
I'm using a dual spring from Crane cams and i keep getting flats spots on the cam shaft, i was told its do to the pressuer the dual springs cause. Im having problems finding a Hydraulic cam that can handle the dual springs. I was thinking about going with the Edelbrock Performer RPM Cam and Lifter Kit. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and how they fixed it? Im looking for any kind for help. I dont want to keep burning though cams.

Have you tried Crane cam tech support? Some components may not apply to some applications. 2 tons does not go well with a 1 ton truck, somethings going to break.

1st you have to use cam lube on the camshaft and lots of it, get the bottoms of the lifters too, make sure that you use oil with zinc in it for breaking in the cam, or it will go flat everytime. there are time when duel springs can pose a problem,, its a pain in the butt. somtimes you got to remove the inner spring during break in also. then after cam break in you can put the inner springs back in. seems like a lot of work and it is.

And what oil are you using? There might be a cam/lifter problem, but a lot of the newer oils don't have enough or any Zinc. Other engines need that to stay alive. ZDDP additive might help, but if you're getting flat spots, replace it with matched components and make sure your oil will do it for your engine. Archer |

i agree with 66sportfury i just installed a mopar cam installation instructions said to remove inner springs for break in. i would buy a cam and get the recommended springs for that cam. make sure that the lifters spin freely in the bores if they do not you'll end up with flat cams. for a reccomendation i like the hughes cam in my small block 238/244 @ .050 535/540 lift single with damper springs
