007 smoke screen .....OMG!!!!!

I have a 1998 Durango SLT 4X4 and it has developed a smoke screen problem. After driving at highway speeds (over 70) for about 20 to 30 mins if I let off the accelerator then accelerate again huge clouds of smoke come pouring out from the back but not the exhaust. My rear window & lift gate are covered in what appears to be splatters of trans fluid. There is a definite tranny leak the entire bottom of the trans is covered in fluid. It has had a leak for awhile but the smoke screen thing is new. Started after my cat clogged up and I replaced it. It doesn't do it just doing around town stop and go driving just out on the freeway.

I agree guys think it's the front pump seal, and it's a rolling fire trap like it is now. Any pointers on how to replace that seal ? Do I have to drop the tranny completely? It's a 4X4 so there's extra stuff to deal with. Major labor over a $10.00 part !!!

Is it using oil ? Or just the trans fluid from the leak ??? If it is the engine I would remove the intake and check the base of the intake. A lot of them would leak and suck oil into the intake.
But fix the trans leak first it could just be the trans fluid blowing back on the hot exhaust

Welcome aboard, I to agree sounds like the tranny fluid hit the hot exhaust.

Welcome!

Were you able to locate and fix the issue? What color is the smoke (I may have missed this info when reading through)?
