Chevy/Mopar guy here, saying HI!
hello all, names Erik
I drive an 02 Camaro SS...its built-heads/cam blablabla
My dad drives the REAL car...a 1967 Plymouth GTX with a nice lil 440/727 combo....
Tranny and engine are going though, so it looks like we are going to have to rebuild the drivetrain...
I am new to Mopars...my Dad knows a bit just from the old days, I basically am going to try and learn as much as I can and ask lots of questions...
One question I have is how hard is it to rebuild a 440...are there any books?
Also, what are the most popular builds guys are doing with the 440's these days.....are most building bad *** N/A set ups or are a lot switching over to forced induction??
I appreciate the help...any is welcome!
Here are some pics of the GTX and SS!

Most of the 440 builds I have seen have been normally aspirated, although you do see a fair amount with a blower. How you build your RB is pretty much up to you. What is the car going to be primarily used for? Is reliability and a smooth idle with enough vacuum to run power accessories your primary concern, or is all out power your goal?
Properly built, it is not unheard of to produce over 700 horses and 650 ft\lbs of torque on pump gas, normally aspirated! Needless to say, those kind of numbers won`t be cheap though.
Big block Mopars respond to the same kind of mods that all internal combustion engines do. Compression, fuel, and flow is what makes power.
Hi back at ya, and that is definitely a SWEET looking GTX!!

Hey man thanks a lot!
I doubt my dad wants to make this car a ***** out ride....im thinking something along the lines of 500 rwhp, and maybe say 550 rwtq...
I spoke to one guy at MoparStyles.com and he said he punched his 440 out to 500 cubes with a new rotating assembly, but everything cosmetically looked like the 440...he said it was a beast...that is always an option...rotation assemblies aren't that pricey comepared to parts for say the GM LSx series engines that I am accustomed to working on...
Thanks again
Erik
