This Dart will be the end of me, but I'm hooked.
I'm new to mopar completley. A just fell upon a free two door '65 Dart and I couldn't be more lost on where to find the info I need, so i thought I'd join a thread, and this was the first one google gave me :). This car was some kid in highschools project, he tore it apart, and then got bored/lost or something. There is no interrior, no floorpan(pretty much) and the entire thing is gutted. All thats left is the dash, gauges, steering column and chassis. The things got cancer all over the floorpan but its not bad anywhere else. I've been looking for floor pans for this and have had no luck. I'm wondering if there are any interchagable floorpans I could use. I'd also like to upgrade to disk brakes but need to know if I can pull them from something else. One last thing is its equipped with a steering column mounted auto 3spd I believe, and I want to put in a manual 4 on the floor. I'll start rebuilding a 318 that was givin to me, but again, Im new to mopar and Im not sure what 4spd will match. Any help is appreciated, I would not expect all my questions answered :)

The first place I would call is Layson's Restorations. They have alot of parts for the early Darts, new and used. Not sure about the floorpans if you can get them new but im sure they have some used ones. www.laysons.com

i have a front end complete froma 1972 duster and a four speed for a small block i dono if the front discs and stuff will swap over maybe one of you guys know i figured i throw it out there

As far as the column goes, I would find a steering column from an automatic equipped 63 or 64 (65?) dart or valiant because the gear selector was on the dash, not the column, its just a plain column. The brakes can be used from a 73-76 dart, duster, valiant, or dart sport. A regular 4 speed from any mopar from 64 - 80(?) should work just fine. You might even find a floorpan with the 4 speed 'hump' or even a floor mounted 3 speed floorpan would work. The transmission is called an "833" mopar trans. Anyway good luck.

Yeah, that brake stuff will swap over. Not as common though. 4 speed will definitely work! |
Welcome!

Thanks all of you for all your help, this will make working on this thing so much easier. The information on the swappable transmission and brakes was more specific and potentially helpful than I could have hoped. thanks again guys. I'll try to get pics posted within the next week or so.
