Help with choosing WHEEL SIZE for 70 Challenger!!!
I have 1970 Dodge Challenger, Rear end (Moser 60/Dana 60), it was built to original specification. Front has Magnumforce E-Body tubular K-member, built to original specification too.
My question is would I be able to fit 235/45-18 (18x8 OFFSET "0") Front and 285/45-18 (18x10 OFFSET "-4") Rear. I'm open for any suggestion but I want to keep it 18x8 and 18x10. Thanks  |
you will need to look at the backspacing of rims also. i think my 72 roadrunner (guessing most mopars were the same) had 4.5" bs. i was able to go up to a 5". the rr have a larger flare on wheel wells but i was able to go 245 up front and 275 out back. think i might have been able to stuff 295 if i put a bit more bs on. you just need to get a set of wheels on and measure how much room you have inside and out.

Sorry guys, this is probably wrong place to post this question.
Thanks 72RDRNR, I'm going with 5.03" backspacing on rear. After measuring about hundred time. I'm going with FRONT18x8 (+2mm offset), REAR 18x9.5 (-4mm offset). Haven't gotten to the tires yet. Baught BOSS 338 Wheels. http://www.bigwheels.net/wheels/338%20Chrome_l.jpg |
Would the back spacing and offset be the same for my 72 Charger? Ive looked all over to find it with no success. I would be going with 15" wheels though

What's your Rear Axel? Mine is Moser 60/Dana 60. I heard that Chargers can go 11" width on the back and backspacing is between 4"-5". |
Not sure how to tell. Its a 72 Charger SE with a 318, auto tranny and vinyl top
|
if your an auto 318, your probably an 8 3/4 axle
just look at your rear end if the back piece is welded on, then your have a 8 3/4 |
Those rims are going to look sweet on the challenger, make sure you let us see them mounted on it :D
|
Thank you 76GTX, and I apologize for the minor thread jack, but since i do have the 8 3/4 axle what is the backspacing and offset for my Charger? I'll be going with 15"s but i would like them as wide as possible front and rear

Don't go too wide in front because it will be hard to turn the steering wheel, unless you have pump driven steering rack. |
