Mechanical roller cam thrust button install
Well, I guess after spending 1,000 on a mechanical roller cam approaching .600 lift, I shouldn't expect to get instructions on how to implement .004-.008 endplay on the camshaft after installation. Thats OK, you guys got your money, customer is on his own! After spending hours looking for an easy fix, I gave up. I've been in this hobby of Mopars for over 40 years, I build my own engines, and won't let this get in my way. After trying to mate the timing cover, w/o the cam button popped into the center of the cam, I discovered that the 3 mtg. bolts interfered with the inside of the cover. I took a measurement of the radius of the bolt pattern added .030 and came up with 2 inches. So, I decided to use a 2" diameter socket, made a piece of pipe @ 2 1/4" diameter and pressed out, on my press, a 2" dimple approximately .100 deep. OK, that problem is fixed. I installed the thrust button and tried to install the cover. It would not go, so I measured THAT distance carefully and took a 1 1/8" socket and a 1 1/2" pipe a pressed THAT out about .100. The cover mated flush now. So , all I have to do now is go back to the press and carefully press .004-.008 in the 1 1/8 dimple for my end play. PERFECT! Wiped off all of my magic marker lines and I am ready to go. After installing the water pump housing, you can't even see the indentations on the timing cover. AND it is stronger with the newly pressed in pockets! Hope this helps, it saved me time AND money!
