new member reporting for duty

Hi guys :)

ive been a long time fan of mopars, specially the musclecars from the late 60s-early 70s.
growing up in the Netherlands i missed out on the oppertunity to drive V powered rear wheel drive cars.

it looks like its finally going to happen as im working out a deal on a 71 duster with a 318 auto from a coronet in it

the other cars in my garage are a 2.0turbo passat and a 08 3.5 AWD charger (the wifeys winterbeater)

if the duster joins the line up it will be a slow going project converting it into a daily driver (paint, small engine upgrades, refreshed interior, side pipes) and ill be back with a boatload of newbee questions :)

thanks for the welcome guys :)

i went out there today and it looks like ill be driving her home on monday :)

i had to stop in at the autozone to get an aircleaner since the car doesnt have one
(i got an edelbrock por flo air cleaner that fits carbs with a 5 1/8th neck and bridge, that should fit a stock 318 block right?)

once i get it home one of the first things to do is figure out how to hook up the heater, it looks like everything is there except the hoses

MREEVES, ill put some pictures up when i get the car home and keep them coming :)

Welcome to the forum!
If the heater hoses aren't connected, the heater core may leak, which is why it was disconnected.

thanks for the heads up rick, the guy i am buying it from said that the conections in the firewall were disconnected when he got the it and the block that he got from a coronet was plugged allready aswell and since these cars arent all that good for winterdriving he didnt bother checking

which still begs the question why they werent hooked up to begin with

now, if i were to hook em back up, is there a way to check the core or do i just wait for the cabin to start flooding ?
(like i said, im new at this)

Good question and I suppose a simple pressure test, with air, would do it.

A couple of pieces of hose, a cap of some sort to put into one of your hose ends, 4 clamps, a pressure gauge with a 'tire style' air fitting and a bicycle pump.
A 30 lb "gas test" gauge from a plumbing store is what I would use.
You could probably put 10 lbs in it and get your answer.
If it holds, it's good.
If not, the first thing to do, is to spray your gauge set up with soapy water.
Good luck!

thanks rick, that sounds simple enough
kinda reminds me of this little doohickey i made a while ago to find a boost leak on my passat :)

Things happen for a reason!
Keep looking, good luck and you'll find "your car"!
