New member, with a strange carb problem.

howdy im new here. i went online to look for a solution for this problem my car and nothing showed up just Forums... Specs: 74 dodge dart, 225 Slant Six, 1 barrel carb.

i got the car about a year ago for 600 bucks and its about the last of its kind around here so everything i have to special order either at auto zones or wherever
The Problem:
i rebuilt the carb that the car came with but its not running right and its leaking Air but everytime i place the hose in the right place or simply cover it, the car shuts off. Its the Air hose that goes from the left side of the carburetor to the air cleaner. i took it apart again to see if maybe i did something wrong but idk what i could have done? Any ideas would help. Thanks!

welcome

sounds like you may have a vacuum leak
did you reset the air/fuel mix screws at the base of the carb
are you sure you got all the gaskets on ...correctly ...?

DO you have power brakes ? Maybe the hoses are reversed ? Usually the hose for the air cleaner goes to the breather on the valve cover

it only has one screw and its on the right side of the carb, it works fine though.
now the gaskets have been a problem from the start. ive gotten about 3 different kits and this last one is the Closest one that Looks like its the one for mine. Im not convinced though, some of the holes don't line up 100%.
