Newbie from sweden needs help

First of all Hello to everybody

Now to my problem.

I have a Plymouth Valiant 70 and i have a question about the brakes on it.

Front brakes are disks and back brakes are drums.

Is it original with disks in the front?

Or is it original with drums both in front and in the back?

Having problem to find new brakes you know:(

Excuse my bad english.

67 GTX Oct 27, 2008 02:12 PM

you could look on the fender tag to find out

valiant70 Oct 27, 2008 02:24 PM

Fender tag?

Its at the back somewhere right hehe

67 GTX Oct 27, 2008 02:37 PM

it should be on the drivers side fender in the engine compartment

valiant70 Oct 27, 2008 02:45 PM

aha do you mean the tag with all the numbers? Where i can see what colour the car is.

But how do i translate those numbers in to words?
I know they explained how to translate the numbers in that show overhaulin but i dont have a frigiin idea.

67 GTX Oct 27, 2008 03:00 PM

go on google, type in your car and fender tag numbers, and translate it
if it doesnt come up, just keep trying different word combinations
i know there is a site for this, but i cant remember what it is

valiant70 Oct 27, 2008 03:40 PM

I will try this

hi val
easy way to tell is it the 5 on 4 inch bolt circle rim if so it might be stock disc brakes which would be a kelsey/hayes brake 4 piston caliper if it has a 5 on 4 1/2 bolt circle rim your brakes have been upgraded to disc and larger bolt circle rim if so try getting parts for a 73 dart, duster, scamp with disc brakes. a fender tag isnt going to tell you much for disc brakes the build sheet will though then you'll need a book to read the option codes same with the fender tag
goodluck val
p.s your car came from the factory with a 5 on 4 inch bolt circle being a 70 valiant -a-body they didnt switch over to a large bolt pattern until 73 w/ a v/8 73's also had small pattern with a /6 hope this helps

So do you mean that my car had discs in the front when it roled out of the factory?

I was out meassured it and i got 5*10,5cm

And you said 5 on 4 inch bolt

There were also spacer plates on the car. My valiant brakes uneven in the front, could the spacers be a reason to this?

4 inches = 10,2 and i just meassured it quickly so i assume that i have 5 on 4 inch bolt.

Does anyone of you guys know where i can order new discs/brakes from?
Its very hard to find in sweden.

I can send you some if you know what you want, from my friend's part store.

valiant70 Oct 28, 2008 10:22 AM

If you would like you could check the price for new discs/complete brake system and what it would cost to ship it to sweden.

Hopefully this helps. By the looks of the products offered, I would say it came with drums all around.

valiant70 Oct 28, 2008 10:44 AM

Ooo thx

If anyone got anymore links just post them here

Commando Oct 28, 2008 11:18 AM

If you find a part number for what you want I will cross check it and see if I can get you a better deal. Then I can check USPS's website to see what it would cost from NJ to Sweden.

hi val
im kinda lost on the cm part without a ruler in front of me but with you saying it has spacer plates on it im asuming its a 5 on 4 another way to kinda dertermine this is looking at the caliper does it have 2 round humps on the top inner and outer sides of it and hard metal brake lines going to each side [ inner & outer] the spacer plates wont cause it to brake funny one of the pistons inside of the caliper will as for replacing them i think it might be cheaper to rebuild them if possible a place over here in the states called year one in brasselton georgia carries restoration parts , seeing how your wanting to replace them dissassemble one and see if it can be rebuilt 1st [ the caliper that isnt the one pulling while braking ] atleast to check for pitting or worn cups and seals yearone also has a catalog for a-bodies [valiant, dart, etc etc ] you can give them a call at 1-800-year-one and tell them you need a catalog for your car atleast to do a price check on your parts seeing as how your over seas
good luck either way

sorry about the double sites but my computer has been acting up for a few days :(

valiant70 Oct 31, 2008 11:17 AM

Hahah The brakes past the veichle inspection hahaha But there was a few other problems but nothing big. Thank for all help guys

67 GTX Oct 31, 2008 04:45 PM

what are the other problems?

valiant70 Oct 31, 2008 05:14 PM

1. The hinge on one of the doors needs to be replaced.
2. Both brake lights dont work.
3. The car releases to much "exhaust?" "Swedish laws suck hehe"
4. The handbrake dont brake on rear right wheel.

Ive already talked to a mechanic/workshop and they will fix it on november 12.
But maybe some of you guys knows about some known issues with the brake light and the handbrake?
If i can fix this my self it will be a lot cheaper.

But i rather pay for this instead of new front brake system:)

I bought new light bulbs for the tail lights today but still no brake light:( The tail lights work but when i brake nothing happens.
Is there some type of switch somewhere?
