Thinking of trading for a 52' Savoy..Need advice i
I've got a friend who purchased a '52 Savoy at an estate sale a few years ago. It runs and drives fine as far as I can tell. He's done some maintenance work to it (brakes etc). Body is solid but the interior is shot. I'm considering trading him a motorcycle I have for it. I'd say my bike is worth between $2.000 - $3,000. Here are my concerns:
1. I've never owned a car older than a 1970 model. Are cars from the 50's a lot of work to maintain? 2. I have a very basic knowledge of car repair. When I was in college I could only afford older cars and had to learn to work on them for basic repairs. Would I be getting in over my head with a car like this? Is it hard to find a mechanic to work on cars of this vintage. Would love your thoughts - Steve |
I would do it !!

Neat car, great grille, very interesting materials due to Korean war shortages, but.
Flat head 6 great for tooling around to weekend cruise shows and such, tough to get parts. If your going to drive it alot I'd think of a modern engine trans swap. Tough to let a car like this go, it could be looked at as once in a life time. |
Parts in general may be hard to find but they are out there. You may have to get creative and make your own even (which is always fun to do). Body work can be done by any good body shop. Finding a mechanic to work on the car...... I'd hit up some cruise nights and maybe a local forum and make some new friends.
If it were me, I'd do the trade. Especially if it were a wagon. |
In a heart beat!!!!!!!!!
