Dodge Shadow - Stalls When Warm
 

I'm having some trouble with my '93 Shadow, with 168000km on it.

The car will start and run fine for about 20 minutes of driving, and upon reaching operating temperature, RPMs will drop when the gas is released, and the car will stall.

I've just fixed the car from a no-start issue, new pump and relay, the filter should be good, along with the lines. I have not, however, had the fuel pressure checked.

The O2 sensor is bad (I believe) and the computer is throwing out the code for the coolant temp. Would these cause this stalling problem? The coolant temp sensor is new (This spring), however, it could be bad..

Any ideas? I'll try to update this post if I find out anything else.

I am no expert in the computer car field but I think...if the coolant sensor is wacky I think it will tell the ecm to run rich. Is your car flooding out ?

Bad O2 wont kill the motor. Temp is just an input that the computer uses to decide how to run the car. Sorry I just sold a set of factory manuals for your car! fuel pressure can be checked using a rented meter from Autozone. What was your "no-start" issue? What motor? Is there spark? Does the fuel pump "spin-up" when you turn the key on?

The no-start issue is a fuel issue. When a small amount of fuel is poured down the throttle body, the motor (2.2L) will burn that. Sometimes this will be enough to get it going, and then it will run and start fine afterwards, until it's driven for about 20 minutes.

I believe the fuel pump is spinning prior to starting. I'm going to check for power at the connector when the ignition is turned on.

i dont know if your car has one but i used to have that problem when the isc would go out on my dodge stealth.

It could be a bad fuel injector or idle air control valve. Fuel injector is more likely because of the way you have to start the car.

When my daytona stalls, the first thing i think of is the hall effect pick up on the distrubitor. I was having a sputter/ stall issue when the car was up to temp. Changed the HEP and it was gone. Is your car turbo or non? Always use a MOPAR hall effect.

Stalling can be caused by a dirty throttle body. The Minimum Idle Air Flow is too low and it won't idle. This is something you can try and it will cost you little or nothing. Remove the throttle body from the engine and clean the throttle bore and throttle blade (especially the edges) with carb cleaner and a Scotch Brite pad or fine steel wool. This is something that should be done periodically anyway.
