2000 Neon Charging problem
I,m working on a 2000 Neon that won't charge. The alternator and battery were replaced before I got into it. Still don't charge. Have battery voltage at Alt output terminal and power from ASD relay to terminal next to field wire. I only get .5 volts from the field wire that goes to the PCM when engine is running. Tried grounding field wire and still nothing. It's an Autozone alt and I exchanged the first one for the one on it now. They both tested good at Autozone but the tester screen had regulator circuit showing and had N/A after it. the other two said Passed. I talked to a guy today at a Starter/alternator rebuilding shop and he recommended replacing the PCM thinking it was the regulator circuit. Tried two used PCM's and still no charge. If the regulator circuit was open in the PCM, it should charge when I ground the field wire.If it is shorted to ground it should be overcharging. I am thinking of taking the Alt to the starter shop and have them test it and put their parts in the field circuit. I still think it is in that Alternator because if I ground the field wire it should jump up to 17 volts.
