Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Third annual O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.200/295.40, Now #1

Bode launched hard and keep it hooked up with a real nice pass to start the weekend....Bob Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.362, 660ft-3.374/254.57 mph.

Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.285/254.52, Now #2
Right Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 6.188/107.56, Now #3

Troxel starts to lose traction around 300 feet. Head with a clean pass to start the weekend, but slowed on the top end. Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.917 sec., 330ft-2.382, 660ft-3.398/252.00 mph.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 5.133/142.34, Now #4
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.631/183.07, Now #3

Pedregon starts using up his engine early and clicks it off. Arend clicked it off early and coasted on through the 1000 feet.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 6.402/101.07, Now #7
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.722/177.51, Now #4

Pedregon started to smoke the tires early and clicked it off...Worsham's engine went silent just before half track.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 5.223/143.89, Now #6
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 5.478/132.14, Now #7

Tasca III starts to smoke the tires early and clicks it off...Wilkerson loses traction right after Tasca and shuts it off.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.210/292.65, Now #2
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 6.449/101.28, Now #11

Hight started to smoke the tires early and clicked it off. Capps makes a good full pull to go to the number two spot. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.909 sec., 330ft-2.357, 660ft-3.375/251.44 mph.

Left Lane: Ashley Force Hood Runs 4.151/301.27, Now #1
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.202/290.19, Now #3

This was a good side-by-side drag race as these two go to the number one and three spots. Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.905 sec., 330ft-2.341, 660ft-3.339/258.37 mph.
Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.907 sec., 330ft-2.350, 660ft-3.366/252.24 mph.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 6.440/99.77, Now #14
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.222/291.01, Now #5

Beckman started to smoke the tires early and clicked it off...Force was straight down the groove to go to the number five spot. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.920 sec., 330ft-2.377, 660ft-3.391/255.68 mph.

CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Third annual O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.081/305.15, Now #1; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 47 percent, barometer 29.30 inches, adjusted altitude 3,263 feet, track temperature 106 degrees.

Force's pass was Dq'ed earlier today because his body was too low. Force launched hard and keep it hooked up to got straight down the groove into the number one spot. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.899 sec., 330ft-2.312, 660ft-3.285/263.41 mph.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.190/302.75, Now #3; No Prior Run

Lee with a great pass, as it was hitting on all eight all the way through the 1000 feet. Lee oes to the number three spot and runs his career fastest pass. Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.924 sec., 330ft-2.386, 660ft-3.381/258.71 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.724/246.80, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.449/101.28, Was #16
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.123/305.36, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.440/99.77, Was #15

Hight started to lose traction around 330 feet and pedaled it one time. Beckman launched and keep the candles lit all the way down the track to go to the number two spot. Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.905 sec., 330ft-2.334, 660ft-3.321/260.46 mph.

Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.132/306.26, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.188/107.56, Was #15
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.218/292.52, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.402/101.07, Was #16

Troxel launched hard and is straight down the groove to go to the number three spot. Melanie Troxel's incremental times: 60ft-0.911 sec., 330ft-2.355, 660ft-3.334/263.20 mph. The word is Troxel will be running all the events next year. She runs the fastest pass of the event, so far...Pedregon with a good clean pass with the new look Komatsu Funny Car to get in the show. Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.929 sec., 330ft-2.379, 660ft-3.386/253.47 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.109/304.39, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.478/132.14, Was #16
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.158/297.09, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.223/143.89, Was #15

This was a great side-by-side drag race with Tasca III going to the number two spot. Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.912 sec., 330ft-2.337, 660ft-3.309/263.67 mph. Wilkerson gets into the top half of the show. Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.912 sec., 330ft-2.346, 660ft-3.337/257.83 mph.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.123/306.67, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.722/177.51, Was #14
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.078/303.57, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.133/142.34, Was #16

Pedregon launched hard and had the header flames shooting over the roof all the way down the track to go to the number one spot. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.896 sec., 330ft-2.301, 660ft-3.279/262.49 mph. Worsham with a great pass to get into the top half of the show...he runs the fastest pass of event, so far. Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.907 sec., 330ft-2.341, 660ft-3.324/261.88 mph.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.115/306.95, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.631/183.07, Was #15
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.154/303.78, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.285/254.52, Was #14

This was a great drag race with a Arend going to the number four spot and running top speed of the event. Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.893 sec., 330ft-2.326, 660ft-3.316/261.37 mph. Head with a real nice pass to get in the show. Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.352, 660ft-3.347/258.07 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 5.491/128.01, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.202/290.19, Was #13
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.149/288.27, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.210/292.65, Was #14

Hagan just before half track the car started to nose over and then it banged the blower with a quick flash of flames...Capps with a real nice pass to get into the show...Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.902 sec., 330ft-2.330, 660ft-3.318/257.04 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.164/297.16, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.200/295.40, Was #13
Right Lane: Ashley Force Hood Runs 6.081/119.00, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.151/301.27, Was #9

Bode double stepped it on the starting line, but still gets into the show...Bob Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.908 sec., 330ft-2.343, 660ft-3.344/255.58 mph. Force Hood starts to lose traction around 330 feet and clicks it off. Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.959 sec., 330ft-2.535, 660ft-4.189/128.91 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.154/305.56, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.154/305.56, Was #10
Right Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 4.259/287.29, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.259/287.29, Was #18

Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 45 percent, barometer 29.43 inches, adjusted altitude 3,014 feet, track temperature 122 degrees.

Diehl with his quickest pass of the weekend, but he will not get in the show. Hight launched hard and keep it hooked up to move up to the number 10 spot. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.349, 660ft-3.349/259.06 mph.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.826/168.91, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.190/302.75, Was #14
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.289/286.25, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.243/290.88, Was #17

Lee started to lose traction and clicked it off. Wilkerson is straight down the groove, but he is not quick enough to get in the show. Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.930 sec., 330ft-2.406, 660ft-3.436/248.16 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.206/296.63, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.164/297.16, Was #13

John smith was to be in the other lane and when they saw that Wilkerson was not getting in the show and they wer in the show, they pulled out of line. Bode with another good clean pass, he will not improve. Bob Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.919 sec., 330ft-2.377, 660ft-3.383/255.48 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.115/299.40, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.156/298.34, Was #12
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.131/304.80, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.215/284.99, Was #15

This is a great drag race...Hagan runs the quickest pass of the day to go to the number five spot. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.895 sec., 330ft-2.308, 660ft-3.299/257.87 mph. Pedregon with a great pass to get into the top half of the show. Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.895 sec., 330ft-2.328, 660ft-3.326/259.46 mph.

Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.781/173.36, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.132/306.26, Was #9
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.197/290.88, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.154/303.78, Was #13

Troxel started to lose traction and clicked it off...Head was loose off the starting line, and made another good pass. Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.347, 660ft-3.365/251.58 mph.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.697/178.76, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.123/306.67, Was #6
Right Lane: Ashley Force Hood Runs 4.222/294.75, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.151/301.27, Was #11

Worsham started to lose traction on the top end and clicked it off. Force Hood with a nice pass, Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.920 sec., 330ft-2.381, 660ft-3.393/252.99 mph.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 10.897/57.47, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.115/306.95, Was #4
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.211/293.60, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.149/288.27, Was #10

Arend lost traction right at the hit...Capps with a good clean pass. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.905 sec., 330ft-2.355, 660ft-3.377/251.25 mph.

Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.760/169.44, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.123/305.36, Was #7

Tasca III with a great pass, the fourth best pass of the session. Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.350, 660ft-3.352/256.55 mph. Beckman started to lose traction and clicked it off.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.167/301.27, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.081/305.15, Was #2
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.114/302.35, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.078/303.57, Was #1

Pedregon with another great pass, the quickest pass of the round. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.899 sec., 330ft-2.315, 660ft-3.308/259.11 mph. Force with another good looking pass. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.358, 660ft-3.356/258.62 mph. This was a great drag race to wrap up qualifying.

Hey ScrapMetal, I really do appreciate your comments but just a question... Why are you commenting on Pro Stock people in the Funny Car section?? Took me a minute to figure who had their head up their tail??????
