318 firing problems
 
my 79 318 seems to idle fine and rev fine but 1/4 to1/2 throtle boggs down the tach drops 50% pleasehelp

carburation problem sounds like to me,, floats, a peice of dirt in the carb,

Check distributer mechanical and/or vacuum advance

I cleaned carb. checked floats and vac. adv. but not mech adv. yet could pionts do this

could if the points are not gaped right, or condenser, has it always been like this? (did you buy like this) or was it running fine then done this, or did you change somthing then it started doing this?,

I found the problem a cornet owner told me if the previous owner didn't know what year the distributer was from the points may have an arm that is to long or short making it fire slightlly off the intended post in the cap then vac. adv. pulls it even farther away making it fire on the wrong cylinder or not at all. I pulled the vac. hose off pluged it set the timming by ear no more problem
