360 build myself
well i pulled my 360 out tore it all down, and just about ready to rebuild and try to get the most out of it. hoping for about 400-450 horse daily driver, can take it down the track a few times, still get allright to good fuel economy and well everything that anyone wants from their musclecar.
everything i have to build my new engine 77 360 block bored .030 over(freshly machined) stock crank (checked in machine shop) stock 360 heads (machined to 2.02/x head stats)(or should i just leave them stock?) keith black pistons .030 over flat mopar performance cam purple Duration 268/272, Lift .450/.455 hydraulic flat tappit with lifters 1,500-5,800 range edelbrock performer intake holley 750 dp any advice or if this will work to my desired specifications would be greatly appreciated thanks Nathan |
My only reservation is the KB pistons, I am not a big fan. Welcome to the Forum man, Sealed Power is a good slug. What casting # are the 360's ?
I dont think you will come anywhere close to the hp you want with that combo, X2 on the pistons. Pretty mild build. 100hp shot of nitrous would do it. What car for this combo? trans?
whats the trans/rear end?
junk those KB pistons!!!!!! |
Diamond pistons. Forged and all ready for spray! And to get the HP you want you'll need WAY more cam and gobs of head work.
i don't have lots of money, if i should replace something should it be intake and cam?
well, you,d be surprised of the power of a near stock 360. I wouldn't think about the HP numbers right away. Just build a strong bottom end, do a decent v alve job on the heads and be careful with the assembly. Later down the road you can put on some better heads, cam etc. You'll be fine with the combo you have on paper but if you want 450-500 hp, more cash will be required. save up for it and do it later.
What car will this be going in? |
well i have a 73 plymouth satellite but if possible would like to sell or trade the body, perhaps put it in something else, just not sure of what's out there. straight body everything is there
whats your trans and rear end?
highway gears not posi rear end
Dibs on the satty body!
make sure you read this thread:

I'm with theomaha on this one. Only thing Is though, while you have the motor aparts, it would be a good diea to install the cam that you want now but thats just me.
i currently have the engine and everything in the machine shop, i need to know for what i wanna get do i need to replace the cam, that would put different valves/springs in heads, intake. if so what is the recommendation on cam and intake

Comp cams can recommend the best springs to go with the cam. But definitly go with the recommendations of the cam manufacturer. Id put the 2.02 intake valves in it and leave the stock exhaust valves. [that way you do not disturb the hardened exhaust valve seats, the intake seats were not hardened just the exhaust seats] I like the one piece stainless intake valves by Ferria {spelling?}.
thinking of a different intake tho, just shoot me some better other then the performer 1 i have
Performer Rpm air gap. Still callin dibs on the satty body!
isnt a 750 cfm too big for a 360?
yes but i also have like 4 other carbs, just gotta re work them

I would go with a Comp Cams 262 H high energy cam. Would work extremely well in a 360. Would work good with your intake.

Well you could go with the 268/280 it has 477 lift on the intake and 480 on the exhaust Part num. CCA-CL20-223-3 from summit racing. Its a cam and lifter package and think it retails for about $186 probably good for 5800-6000 rpm's if set up with right intake/carb.
The other one that I mentioned was the 262/270 with 462 lift on the intake and 470 on the exhaust . Alittle bit milder but would be a torque producer. Probably could ring it out to 5600-5800 R's. It is part num. CCA-CL20-222-3. Has the same price and is also a cam and lifter package . Both are ground on 110 deg. centerlines I believe. I think both of these would work good for a 360 with the stock crank. |
a 750 vacuum secondary holley is not too big for a 360 and you can make a 750 double pumper work too but it will be "temperimental" {kinda touchy} on the street.
Intakes;1. eldebr. rpm air gap/2. Weiand Stealth air strike/ or 3. crosswind intake made by professional products-RPM Machine ALSO Summit racing has thier own "air gap type" manifold that looks to be very much the same as the Eldebrock RPM air gap for a little bit cheaper but I personally haven't heard much about it in terms of comparison. |
your engine with make 300ish hp, maybee. put magnum heads or eddys on. and a bigger cam 2 make your goal hp. good luck
how would you rate the cam i have. brand new, mopar performance 450/455 lift 228/231 duration centerline 112
bump
now offering the car itself, no engine tranny, trying to see if there is something else i could stick my new motor in. selling/trading the car 73 plymouth satellite. could get pictures but if you want them fast i'm also in forbbodiesonly.com hope everything gets where i want it to be |
I'm a b body fan too, but if I were you, I'd cram that motor into an A body. Not like I should talk, my Belvedere sports a 318.
that was my idea personally just seeing what i could get
building a 360 and sure could use some advice here......
Im buildling a 360 up.. not a magnum..want it streetable. I want to get about 350 HP if I can, and of course, Im on a budget,,, short one...Im mostly into the 50s stuff so this is kind of out of my comfort zone... Im thinking some 9.5 comp. pistons, maybe KB, Im open to manifold and carb , need new cam advice for sure, Ill use the stock crank and rods, heads Im open to as long as it isnt spendy, ill use elec ign of course, probably some type of headers. roller chain and gears, hope I can get some good advice out there from you guys... maybe Im asking for too much.. but sure would appreciate some advice.. please email me privatly.. and again,, thanks in advance
