fuel pump?

ive had a few posts about my fifth avenue but now i have another problem. it takes a long time to start. now when i started it this morning (which took forever) it didnt run right. when holding the accelerator pedal all the way down it puts along at 15 mph. everything in the ignition is brand new and the spark plugs were changed 2 days ago. the choke is opperating properly but it doesnt want to go. i think its the fuel pump but not sure. the fuel filter is also brand new. It ran perfectly yesterday so im in a bit of a boggle. also when i first put it into drive or reverse it wants to stall. HELP ME PLEASE!

New developement on my situation. i started the car and put my timing light on the number 1 cylinder. it was not sparking, i checked all the other ones and 5 of them were not firing but as i was checking they started to fire up. now all 8 are running ok except at higher engine speeds then it seems to sputter. any ideas?

yes sir they are. i think my dizzy may be no good but when i get my car running and can get back home ill put in one of my other ones i have laying around
its got spark in some plugs but not all lof them so i think the points on the dizzy may not be gapped properly but then why would a few of them work and not all? after about 5 mins of idling they all are working fine but its very hard to get started. battery and alternator are putting out enough voltage so i know thats not the case. ive checked all electrical connections in it too. im about ready to put a chevy 454 in this damn thing

changed the dizzy no change in effects. now no longer getting spark to the dizzy either. got a new ecu gonna try that. i took out the lean burn a long time ago due to the problems it had. but the back of the ecu wasnt melted as i thought it would be. i put it in and have spark to the other dizzy i have but i have to charge the battery because it doesnt have enough juice to turn the engine fast enough.

put in a new cap and rotor. it starts now. set the timing but doesnt seem to be firing right. i tried different plugs this time and it doesnt want to spark. spark is getting through the wires. but these plugs dont seem to work at the needed gapping so i think when i get my better plugs it will be ok. the problem seemed to be the cap and rotor with less than 500 miles on them. no visible problems but its the last thing i could change. guess ill be taking that back to advanced.

0.35". it was running but like ****. i got back home and this morning i checked the plugs. on 1 the gap was squeezed shut and another had melted the little tab and the electrode. i put new plugs in again but now the damn thing doesnt want to start again. i think the cap and rotor going bad may have screwed up my engine.

If you have a squashed electrode I would HIGHLY suggest a compression test on the cylinder it came out of.

i put in different plugs and now it runs fine again. but all the problems with my ignition took a toll on my starter. i went out for st patties day to dd for some friends on the night i turn 21 (sounds wierd but i dont drink). I actually turn 21 today. they wouldnt let me in the bar at 1120 so my friends wanted to leave. i took them back to the town where they live but with 6 people in the fifth ave it rides low and ripped a muffler off. i stopped to pick it up and one of them decided to turn off my car to make a phone call and now it wont start. the starter groans and barely cranks over the engine so now i get to spend most of my birthday fixing my starter on the side of the road and hope thats the only problem. but thanks for all of your help.

thanks. seems to be running ok now. now i just need to get the 4bbl and finish my exhaust and ill be all done for now. I just bought a 383 block and crank that im going to start building up. it came with a set of keith black hyperenutic flat top pistons for the .060 and lightweight ibeam connecting rods for 300 bucks! The block has already been cleaned and had an acid bath too. gonna bore it .060 over, big lumpy cam, dual 4bbls, open headers, mill to zero deck, port and polish heads and intake, and maybe some other little goodies

I hate to be Capt. Buzzkill but you may wanna sell those pistons, that's just my personal opinion. I am sure some folks will say they are great but I am not a big fan of KB's.

im not a big fan of fat girls but they still get the job done just as good as any others. jk im having second thoughts of this whold big block conversion and am thinking that a well built 360 or 340 may be better. but for the price i couldnt go wrong. i can easily get double my money off of ebay for all of this. the pistons themselves were over 400 when bought so i think ill separate and sell it or trade it for a rebuilt 360

theyre gonna operate again in may if it doesnt get better. gonna cut my tendons and shorten them and maybe put some type of swivel in my socket so it can still move but not pop out. probably wouldnt dislocate if i wasnt pounding or cranking on something or lifting heavy stuff
