help, 73 dart custom 318 to 360 swap
 

I have a 1973 dodge dart custom I've been slowly restoring for the past 6 months. it came stock with a 2bbl 318... and that engine blew a head gasket... which I replaced and well someone stuffed a rag in with the distributor way before I bought the car, the rag wrapped itself around the cam shaft and shredded. it ended up clogging the oil pump and I just lost the bottom end...

so now I'm reading up on a 318 to 360 swap...
I'm looking into buying an early 70s 360 from a car

but what all will I need? anybody have step by step instructions? I'm a young guy looking into getting into mopar and figured this is a good place to start.

If you're happy with the smaller 318 exhaust manifolds you can use those. There is a minor difference on the drivers side motor mount, I believe you can just use washers on one bolt. The difference is the cast ears on the block. You'll need either a proper converter for the 360 (balance weights added) or you can use your 318 converter and buy an aftermarket --like B&M-- special flex plate with the balance weights on the flex plate.

the oil pans are different (rear "half moon") between 273/ 318/ 340 and the 360 engine which is different. If you get an engine out of a pickup/ van (rear sump) you'll need a "car" center/ front sump pan and pickup SPECIALLY for the 360

Everything else should be a "drop in"

You could also get a weight kit from Mopar Performance and weld it to your converter
I haven't checked to see if it is still available. I used one of the B&M flex plates Very nice piece. It looks like someone took a big bite out of it. It's an easy swap. A lot of the 360's in the mid/late 70's came with a thermoquad great if it is working other wise you will need an adapter or a different intake manifold for a standard 4bbl
