No Brake Lights
They were working last time i drove the car, The blinkers and tail lights work, the brake switch is working, does any one have any ideas??
|
Fuses, or the bulbs are corroded into the socket. I had the same problem on my truck. It magically happened after I brought home two big blocks and transmissions:D
Those would be where I would look. j |

Those would be where I would look. j Those are the two things that popped into my head when I first read this.. Also, the bulbs may be broken. Start by checking the bulbs, and tracking it down. -nick |
signals and brake lights are the same filament so wiring, sockets, bulbs etc are all ok.
it could be a bad turn signal switch, you'll have to trace the power in and out. also, try changing the position of the 4 way flasher if you have one. |
richinny what do you mean try changing the position of the 4 way flasher, do you mean plug the connector in a different way
|
change the switch position.
btw, what year is your car? |
its a 69, still no luck with it
|
|
K, here's a starting poiint. Where does the power stop. With this you will be ok, gert in touch if there is still a problem. Good luck buddy
|
no grounding wire or the signal from teh brake switch is not making it all the way to the back.
|
as mentioned, you have to trace the power from the brake switch. since the power is getting to the back you seem to have an open wire between the brake switch and the turn signal switch. check those connectors with a test light to see if the power for the brakes goes in and out of the turn signal switch. check for corrosion in the turn signal switch plug. i think 69 had the 4 way flasher switch on the dash? if so, check that connection too.

Things get a little goofy on these cars. Since the brake and turn share the same lamps, the turn flashes when the brakes are off, but must interrupt the brakes when they are on. Richinnys sharp, listen to him

thanks for the help have been busy with work, will check tomorrow everything tomorrow, i do have another question though, if i replaced the blinker switch, does it matter what wire i hook up, the instructions did not say.
|
Sorry, I'm into the sauce now. No more advice tonight! I'm laid off, try you tomorrow, after noon. hic..... hic....I love you man!
