plate rubbing
plate rubbing
well some months ago i bought a 70 fury3 and i just finaly found a tranny at the right price and put it in to try to drive the car for the first time and i hear a plate rubbing, pull out a couple screws on the bottom and find a 3inch by half inch piece of sheet metal sheared off sitting under the torque converter, my first instinct was that since the inspection plate was a little bent when i put it in and took some bending back into shape that maybe i did a bad job and it took a chunk off but the piece of metal is thicker than the bottom of the inspection plate. sooooo is there anything else it could be? i mean yes im pulling the plate off but the last screw isn't cooperating i cant get the oil filter off to unscrew it because its crushing instead of turning... beginning to think she doesn't want to live again... as an aside she moves and she runs so it doesn't seem like something important broke but then I'm new to this.
flex plate could have broke is there any way you can spin the torque converter and look behind the inspection plate, you said you cant move the plate do to a stuborn bolt, does that mean you wont be able to see the flex plate?
its the right thickness but not the right shape and color my flex plate is painted blue and shaped sorta like 4 triangles in an X formation so i kinda doubt its that because its a perfectly straight rectangle with 3 sides flat and one side sheared. ill be looking at both though once I get this bolt sorted out
