power steering gear box change

i changed the ps gear box in my 73 satellite, and the pitman arm has a different part no. on it. The wheels seem to turn with no problems and the steering and suspension look normal when turning from side to side. does anyone know how important this is to change pitman arms? They look somewhat similar.

Not sure I totaly follow here because gear boxes usually dont come with pitman arms (unless maybe used). Part numbers are put on parts for a reason what you can do is cross referance the part number to see what piece of equipment it goes to but more than likely if you aquired a gearbox with the pitman arm still attached I would look up specs to that and compare to what your installing in.

Did you take the bolt all the way out of arm if i remember right that bolt runs through the side of shaft keeping it from comeing off thus bending pullers but I could be wrong!
