Removing the Wood Grain from Center Console
Have a wood grain inlay on your center console? Is it chipped up and need to be replaced? Maybe you just don't like wood grain... It's pretty easy to remove, just a little tedious.
You'll need a gasket scraper, your wife's hair dryer (or a heat gun),a small flathead screwdriver, some rags and Lacquer Thinner.
Heat the Woodgrain vinyl with the hair dryer and start sliding the gasket scraper underneath the sticker. Go nice and slow, try to not break or remove the plastic over the vinyl sticker. It holds the thin vinyl together for easier removal. Any small areas that your gasket scraper can't get to, use the flathead screw driver lightly to remove. When all of the vinyl is up, there will be a bunch of leftover adhesive.
Use the rag and lacquer thinner and scrub the adhesive off, you'll probably have to use your fingernail to get some of the bits in the corner. Make sure you're working in a well ventilated area, or wearing a respirator. Eventually, that adhesive will come off, even though at first it won't seem like it.
Now, you should be able to put down your new decal, or paint, scotch brite a brushed nickel finish or whatever you feel like doing.
Good Luck!
