UNI heater control valve???
I knew I had a leak in the heater system somewhere and after tracking it down it turned out to be the manual (not vacumn) controlled heater control valve. It was made by Ranco Inc. (H16 model). Searching the net resulted in no luck so I am leaning towards a universal type valve. I found one a guy makes that is really nice but a little too expensive for my car. Has anyone used a "uni" type? Sure I could use a hand crank type that rock auto sells but I want to use the level on the dash. Any help would be appreciated.

well i picked up a heater control valve from Autozone today. They let me go into the parts shelves and just go through the boxes and I found one that may work. I fabbed a mount for it and added the cable clamp as well. Unfortunately it is an inline type which is obviously different than the double tube that the OEM part has. Now I have to figure out how to mount it properly to allow the cable to actuate correctly. Ahhh if only it was my ride and not the wife's, I would just bypass the heater and yank the A/C off as well. FYI, the replacement can only be rebuilt as its not available anymore. 99$ for a rebuild? nah, i'll figure it out.

The first HCV I got didn't work out so I just went with a on/off ball valve. On in the winter and Off in the summer. I have heard that doing a heater core bypass in summer can help reduce A/C temps since the heater core is co-located next to the A/C unit underdash. After the copper RTV sets up overnight on the water outlet I will fire it up and cross my fingers there are no more leaks! Had to RTV the gasket since it kept leaking (yep thermo was installed right).
