1971 Roadrunner,GTX,and the Satellite
 

Hello my name is Tim Im finally going to take the step and get me a muscle car. I have a guy I work with that has a 1971 Plymouth now he said it was a Barracuda. Im not so sure it is. Without running the vin how could you tell these 3 models apart a Roadrunner-GTX and a Staellite. they look so closely alike. I know its not a cuda cause my father in law has a 1972 all original all numbers matching and only has 32000 miles on it he bought it brand new and has kept it in the garage since he bought it and only brings it out on nice days and to take to shows. anyway back to the other car with this be a great starter car for someone like me that has never owned a muscle car thanks for all the help here is a picture I took of my friends car

Without the broadcast/build sheet, running the vin or finding the original badges, gonna be hard to tell if the car was at all modified and it looks like it was.

The Satellite / Sebring was the more luxury oriented version and the GTX was it's more muscular counterpart.

If you're not going for a numbers matching resto, I wouldn't worry about it.

Welcome, looks like a satty.If your not car savy [no offence intended] have a friend go over the car,vin#s help,under the hood is whats called the fender tag if you could get a photo of that someone here could tell you what it was to begin with. Be very careful your not getting taken [happens all the time poor non car savy folks buying rusted/bondo filld heaps] looks like a nice car but check it out,restorations and replacement parts are costly and labor is worse.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I called my buddy who works on old cars and does restorations. Here is what I found out. Its a 1971 Plymouth Satellite it has a 318 with 78,000 miles on it. All numbers matching. There is some bondo on the front fenders but the rest of the car is soild. It has been repainted and runs like a Champ DO you guys think this is a good starter car or should I go with something else? Should I replace the fenders so there isnt any bondo on the car or just leave them? thanks again for all the Info

Go for it if the price is right. I would if I were you.

If the price is def. right i would do it. You could always clone it into a GTX or roadrunner if u like for ur first car. Nice find though looks pretty solid.

Great thats a fine first mopar just as it is and as said could be cloned into a gtx or roadrunner,bear in mind the price must be right. Look around the web to see simular cars and see what the avrage price is then you can decide if it's the right car for you.

They are nice solid cars, handle pretty well for a car of that era, comfortable, but a LOT of the smaller parts aren't re-made for the car, and some are expensive. $40 neighborhood for a wiper knob, when you can find one. Purtiful cars tho
