1972 Duster smog issues?
I'm snagging 72 duster and I'm wondering about smog issues. My dad is telling me that cars 1970 and up need to pass strict emission standards. He says that it can become pretty expensive and may not be worth fixing the car up. Is it hard to meet these standards? I'm planning on dropping a 340 in it.

Since we don't know where you are, we can't answer.
Emission laws --which are enforced--vary from state to state. Here in Idaho, there are none being enforced. Other states have exemptions for older cars, some don''t. A friend of mine recently moved fromCalifornia to Arizona and later to Texas. He had a '70 chevy 3/4 T pickup he bought new, and some of the smog stuff (there wasn't much) had been removed. The state of Arizona required him to replace it all before they'd license it What you need to do is contact your local motor vehicle licensing dept. They are the people who enforce whatever laws, and they will know. |
Many thanks. Will do. I live in southern california. My buddy says they're lax on the law and all cars before '75 are fine. I'll call to be sure anyway. Thank you!
