340 to 410?

Hey guys,

Has anyone taken a 340 engine and put the 4.00inch stroker kit onto it making a 410?

I am unsure about doing a .30 bore making a 4.070. This seems like the walls would become VERY thin and I really dont want to sleeve this engine in the future!!! :naughty:

So the setup would be the factory 4.040 bore with the 4.00inch stroke? *Any pros/cons to doing just this??

Can I use the factory pistons and connecting rods?

I dont really want to be on the street at 6500RPM alot lol

~Street use 99/100 times I drive it

Just my nickels worth (2 cents don't cut it anymore) but with all the bazillions of 360's out there I'd be inclined to start with one of those. Plentiful and cheap, toss a stroker kit in that thing and go to town! Clean the 340 up, mist it with lightweight oil, wrap it in a large sized trash bag and set it in a corner. The link will give you an idea of the work, and benefits of a stroker.

Yeah I have a 340 in my 73' Duster right now making just over 300h.p

I bought another 340 engine specificly to build and "play with." I have a 360 in my 75' Duster with Eddy heads, intake, and hot cam so I know 360's scream!!

Thanks for the link by the way!! lol

She will handle .040 all day long.

My ten cents. Look at the scat 9000 series kit with their I beams and their Icon or Probe piston. You can find it for $1050 if you look around. The bob weight on this kit is around 1750. Considering the magnum 360 has a bob weight of 2000, and the 360 LA 2200 ish.. the scat kit is light.. especially with a forged piston. Just something to think about.

She will rev like a small block if you pay attention to the weight.

You can use the KB hyper E piston which is even lighter and cheaper but it has a bigger / heavier ring package (5/64 vs 1/16 for forged) and IMO I wouldn't spray it. Ive used it for 450HP builds and it is excellent and durable.

x2 on the bagging the 340. But thats just me.. I would grab a magnum 5.9 core to get the roller lifters and cut on that. Retro fit rollers are 300 bucks alone. It will be cheaper all the way around. Someone will pay good money for an uncut 340 block.

The 340 block will need very mild clearancing for the rod bolts. However they may have changed the bolt since the last time I did one. The 360 needs none. ( but check:))

@PK1, @moparod

Yeah I should prolly put it in the corner...but then I couldnt make a 416 lol and then there's no fun in saying "yeah its JUST a 340"

Its temping to buy a 360 but my 73' Duster came with a 340, and I am wanting to stick with the semi original theme..I took my rack and pinion out and put the stock crap back in.

Call me crazy, right?

*And thanks for the advice about rod bolts as I didnt know I needed to do that, any other info I may need to know about clearance issues while stroking and boring by engine?

I have been doing research on Main Stud Girdles and now Im wondering...Should I waste my hard earned $300 on this?

I have seen alot of FORD guys going on about this on GOOGLE but nothing about mopar 340s...at all.

Thanks~Sean

That was a cool link!!

Nothing else you need to do. Girdle is up to you. Depends on power level. Block is fine. It swallows the 4 inch arm nicely.

If you are chasing cubes Callie makes a 4.125 arm. Can you say 427!!!
