340 stroker kit questons??

So I have been doing some research for my 340 and its going well. But like always, I want your guys input as you have never took me down the wrong path!

Looking into doing a stroker kit on the 340.

I think I want to go with the SCAT stroker kit but I want another opinion! Looking to go for the 408/416

Thinking 1.6:1 roller rockers? Anyone using these and are they good or bad

Any ideas about this kit/ better kits to buy?

Wanna make about 500 h.p out of this puppy and need some more well rounded guidance.

Also should I go with a Forged crank or stick with cast?

Then its onto pistons...Flat top? I know this is alot to ask, but just got a new motor to play with and I have never fully built a engine.

Thanks guys~ Sean:clap:

HP is in the cam and heads.Torque is in the stroke. What is this engine going to do? Scream at high RPM or grunt out stump pulling torque at 1800?

I would go with this forged internally balanced Callies stroker kit from Mancini.

500 hp! don't even think about a cast crank. The Mancini kit is a proven combo. along with a 7-8 qt Milidon oil pan Some ARP main studs maybe a windage tray You may need to shim it away from the crank for the stroker clearance

@bigblock

I want to get the horsepower at the mid to top end.

@TVLynn @Bremereric

I will definitely look into the Mancini kit and thanks for the advice!

Here is the new canvas, 1971 engine with J heads

Do I have to do a stroker kit to make the kind of power I am looking for??
