400 bb question

400 bb question
okay so i found a 400 bb on craigslist about 30 mins away from my place for 250 bucks... the downer is that he says it has a bent push rod and he says it wont turn over
so i am confused do you think the motor is locked up from something else besides the pushrod???

a bent push rod shouldn't stop it from turning over, depends on if its jammed up? could be locked up from sitting, a 400 would make a great street engine, with closed chamber heads,

thats kinda gives it too you right there, the guy bought it and dosnt know what wrong with it, he probly does know whats wrong with it. ive seen sellers do this alot. buy somthing find out its junk and tries to find a person to unload it on to get his money back, if he truly doesnt know whats wrong with it then he will have no problem letting you pop the head off on the side with the bent push rod. and take the oil pan off too. why spend 250 on 10 bucks of scrap iron, if its just a rusted ring set no problem,

Usually a bent pushrod comes from a stuck or bent valve. Which means the guides are probly shot on that cylinder. so the heads 90% possobility junk. if you can hear it run ,i wouldnt give more then 50.00 for it. specially if he doesnt let you take the head and oil pan off.
