440 exhaust leak near intake runner, anyone seen this before?
 
I have a fresh 440 with about 250 miles on it. I am hearing and seeing exhaust leak under the hood near the middle runner of the Edelbrock intake (7913 I believe) on the passenger side of the car where the intake bolts to the head. After a minute or two, it seems to seal up. Is this normal? If not, what steps should be taken to resolve the issue?

its an exhaust crossover port i think, made to help your intake warm up faster and get your carb warm, i can't see it making problems besides maybe that its leaking into the motor as well, does smoke come out of your oil cap? it just sounds like the intake was done wrong, idk im an ammetuuuurrre

No smoke from the oil cap, just from the hole in the head. Like I say, it seals up after a few minutes....for now. I hope it will not get worse.

i'd imagine they are cast iron heads, so i'd see what it does and getting worse would lead me to redoing the intake gasket, man this seems like a what the fuck situation cause some gaskets just cover that whole port, i don't see chrysler making a port to warm an intake that will overheat anything if it leaks, and if your exhaust was to restrictive you would think it would get worse as it runs. im going by small block knowledge so take it with a grain of salt

like Will D sead it is a crossover port and you will want to change it in the future the hot exhaust will burn the gasket out and you will get oil upon the intake manifold during a long cruise and by the end of the summer

So are there gaskets that cover this port with something tha will not burn through? If I block the port, will I have warn up issues?

Shot in the dark but I did see this on a motor a few years back a co-worker was working on, pretty sure it was a chev but sounds like from what your saying its the same thing - turns out the alum. intake was not torqued down properly, in fact it was so tight he had to impact wrench the thing off and on the bench it had the shape of a banana, so cold it would leak at the exhaust crossover and warmed up it was better but still leaked a little, put new intake on torqued properly and it was like new - you might just have a gasket problem but without being there and seeing / hearing this its all guess work ..... good luck man

They do have gaskets with a metal plate imbedded in the material just cant remember the brand but I have seen them, if your real careful you can make your own block off and hold everything in place with permatack while you reinstall the intake, I've done it and it works great but a bitch on cold days when the gas wants to turn back into a liquid after it hits the ice cold intake

do you have headers or exhaust manifolds clone?

There is a heat riser on the side where the leak is.
