Question '64 Imperial 413 won't mate with '60 727 transmission

I bought what is supposed to be a 1964 Imperial 413 engine to put in my 1960 Plymouth Fury (which had a 361 "Golden Commando" engine). My mechanic looked at where the crankshaft comes out of the new engine and where it's supposed to fit on the old torqueflite transmission (that came with the Fury) and said the engine not only can't mate with the transmission but can't work with a push button transmission. But the '64 Imperial had a pushbutton trans. I can see that the place where the crankshaft comes out of the 361 is quite different from that of the 413, the former sticks out about 1/2 inch from block, the 413 crankshaft ends flush with the block (that is the plate for bolting onto it is flush with the block. The diameter of the crankshafts might even be different.
I will try to determine from the numbers on the block what it actually is, but can it really be that the '64 Imperial's 413 can mate with the 361's transmission? My mechanic did say that you could take the engine apart and put in a different camshaft but that this was more hours of work than he wants to put in.
Suggestions appreciated.

Update: it seems that the seller lied. This is a truck engine. I bought a '74 transmission, but so far we can't things to line up with the '60 Fury frame. The oil pan, for one thing, hits a cross member. Any advice? Should I give up and buy the correct engine? Would a 413 truck engine, if we can mate it to the Fury, be more fun to drive? Help!
