66 fury how wide can i go?

Hi guys, I am very new to the Mopar world and was hoping that I could get some helpful advise on a proper wheel/tire combo for my car. i just purchased a 1966 Plymouth Fury III with a 440 and im looking to upgrade the wheels. I would Prefer a 15x6 in front and a 15x? (largest) wheels/tire combo in the rear. I don't want to have to worry about rubbing or having to roller inner wheel wells, but i would like to get the widest wheel in the back as possible. I have been searching on here, but have not been able to come up with any info. If you come point me in the right direction of width, backspacing and a nice tire size, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

with a stock wheel well all you will get is an eight inch wide wheel in the rear, although I would look for a five inch wheel for the front to make the rear tires look wider

Great to know about the rear. Any suggestions on a good tire size and wheel backspace?

This has been talked about alot on here, I my self have wanted to know what the biggest tire or widest wheel I could put under my Belvedere was? Last summer I tried a wheel and tire that I thought would fit and it didn't, but I think it may help. I have 245/60r15 tires on the back of my car now on 7 inch wheels with a standard 4 inch back space ( this tire looks better on an 8 inch wheel ). On the car, just measuring with a tape measure -- spring to tire was 1.75 inchs and spring to wheel was 2.75 inches and tire to quarter panel is tight just letting my fingers slide past. I tried a 255/60r15 tire on 8.5 inch wheels and they wouldn't fit. The wheels had the same 4 inch back space and I think this was problem I ran into. This tire is just a touch larger, not much and fit the wider wheel better. It measured spring to tire 2.25 inches and spring to wheel was 2.75, pushing the 1.5 inch wider wheel out past the quarter panel, but the wider wheel gave more tire clearance on the inside. I don't have a wheel to try, but I think a 8 inch wheel with a 5 or 5.5 inch back space with one of these tire sizes would fit tight but be nice and full. Pictures are of the wider wheels.

Not sure how the 67 and earlier cars are but you probably wouldnt have a problem with a 15x10 cragar or whatever wheel you want on the rear and put some 50s on it. 50s are a big tire, so the bigger you go with the rear tire the more of deep dish wheel your gonna have to get and with the deep dish wheel your gonna have to lift your rear a tad (air shocks or something) so it can stick out just a hair. In my opinion I've always liked the look of tires sticking out the back a little but some people don't. Hope this helps but I'm probably no more experienced than you are in this scenario lol.

I think the Fury is the same as the Belvedere in the rear wheel wells. The wheel opening and the top of the wheel are pretty close on my car, putting the tire up in the wheel well and behind the quarter panel. In the pictures I posted above I had to jack the car up, put it on a jack stand and then let the rear axle hang down. I already run air shocks on the Belvedere just to give it a little rake, but I'd have to raise the rear of the car 4 or 5 inches just to run tire that would stick out past the body. I do think that looks good on some cars, but I personally don't think it would look good on this year range of B-body.

Not a chance. The 65 and up Fury is a c-body and has a short rear wheel well.
I would not go over an 8" wheel with the factory back space or may be a smaller back space if you can find it as you will want to move the wheel as close to the springs as you can to get a big tire under there... 245X60X15 might go but I would check with some tire sites as they will have actual measurments.

You guys would know better than me for sure. I'm only experienced in the 68-70 b-bodys. And of course E-bodies.

Sorry I was thinking that the Fury was a B-body instead of a C-body, I do think they have about the same room in the rear though. I was doing some more looking on this subject and found a 1966 Coronet on Hot Rod's site, that they put 18x8 with 4.5 inch backspaced wheels on. Front tires were 245/50-18 and rears were 255/50-18, sounds pretty big and I think this would be close???

I know this is old but it might help someone out it would of helped me that's for sure as for a stock 67 Plymouth fury 3 4 door I just put 255/60r15 on a 8.5" rim with a 4" backspace for the front I went with 215/60r15 on a 7" rim today and it works well no rubbing
