'72 Satellite hit and runned

1 Attachment(s)
Sitting parked in front of our house, some joy rider took our turn too fast and slammed right into it. Never even slowed down. The front came forward and hit our truck, ruining the bumper, grill, and crumpling the fender. Adjuster came by, they totaled it and we will probably not get a whole lot for it. So basically a parts car if anyone needs anything let me know. Just happened yesterday at 1 in the morning

dodgenut7 Jun 9, 2011 10:55 PM

sorry to hear about your car buy it back like the others said

MercuryDon Jun 9, 2011 11:24 PM

Wow, Sorry to hear what happened. those kinda people should be hung !

Any guess in how much it would cost to repair the damage? I can provide more detail and pictures. Right now the insurance values the car as $6000 and they will sell it back for $1500 ($4500 cash and we keep the car) We are arguing about that currently...

Engine is fine, though something seems like its not gripping right somewhere in the drivetrain but I don't know we only drove it 10ft the engine might have been cold.

BuckNeccid Jun 10, 2011 04:11 AM

1972, I dunno if it would help or not, but I can send you some pics of my clone, and I'll provide a letter saying I sold it for $14K last year. It's all true, so I don't have to worry about that.

What are they basing the value on? Even completed e-bay sales should give a better valuation than what they are offering.

what a crock that car is fine they total just about any classic that becomes smacked up like that. at least you can get fenders and quarters for them now Id keep it id hate to see it parted or in a junk yard

Crazy4Carz.Com Jun 10, 2011 05:32 AM

Actually, any frame damage today and the vehicle becomes totalled. There are exceptions, but this car definitely has frame damage. It could be pulled on a frame machine, cost maybe a thousand bucks. Do NOT cut or remove anything until the person with the frame machine pulls it straight. Out local guy could pull that and you would not have to replace any metal.

Good luck, dealing with insurance companies is never pleasant and often very difficult.

Unfortunately we are probably not going to fix it up, too expensive for us. I met someone that has a '72 Satellite and it needs an engine and he can use the hood. But I'll keep you guys updated on what we do.

TVLynn Jun 10, 2011 01:26 PM

Tell them you will take the 6k and keep the car !!!

Mr.Duster Jun 10, 2011 04:46 PM

id take the 6k and keep the car then sell the car to someone that can fix it up if you can. I would hate to see it turn into a parts car. It can be fixed.

cbroeders Jun 10, 2011 05:54 PM

holy crap... they must have smoked that thing pretty hard. i wonder what their vehicle looks like after that

scotts74birds Jun 10, 2011 07:11 PM

Sorry bro! Too bad the back of our old cars are wedges that direct the newer cars under them! IMHO, if it was a Roadrunner, then I might consider fixing it. However, as a Satty, I would decide if there was money in the rest of the parts [no bondo!], or just take the check, and start fresh. Not a good deal either way, sorry.

Mopar_71 Jun 10, 2011 09:23 PM

Aw man! Sorry to see that. Glad everyone is safe and hope they catch the person who did this to your car.

78doubleR Jun 11, 2011 12:09 AM

At least buy it back and take the extra money they give to buy that other satellite and make 2 into one. I still hate to see this thing get parted out though when it can be fixed.

agreed

Well we bought it back from insurance and sold it to a couple with a '72 Satellite with a 318. It will be a good donor car for another Roadrunner clone.

Unfortunatley I will not be getting another classic car. I will be using the insurance money to buy a college car, looking into a PT Cruiser but yeah.
