727 rebuild
 

Can anyone recomend a good book on rebuilding a 727? I have never rebuilt a transmission before and from what ive heard these 727s arent too hard to do even for first timers. Any suggestions would be appreiciated :think:

i am NOT an trans expert. but a guy i know that does this told me to put the the clutch plates in trans fulid over nite. and set the pack clearance to the min demtion. if range of Ciearance is .100 to .120 in set at .100. thats not a useable dim. NOTE: iam not a trans expert.

727 is a very good trans. Not too hard to rebuild. Every thing needs to be cleaned very good. The only problem you will encounter is you need a bushing driver, also need a press to take the clutch pack apart. I would try the local trans shop to do it for you. It is under a lot of pressure and you don't want to loose a finger or two

Good answers. I believe there are 19 or 20 videos with the link posted. I'm sure there are other ways, but I use Firefox, with the "video download helper" plug in. This allows you to save Youtube videos. I have all of these videos saved to hard drive.

Look around on their prices. I bought mine off the website, and found later I could have done better on eBay.

The 727 really is an easy trans to do, as a kid of 19 I fried one in a 70 Cuda I have. With out the funds to pay someone to rebuild it for me I did a little research down to the transmission guy at my local Plymouth Dealer (no internet in those days). He suggested the B&M trans rebuild kit as it comes with everything you need and a step by step book that even the 727 book for dummys could do no better! The kit goes through the pump to increase fluid flow and goes through the valve body with your pick of how it shifts; soft, hard or neck snapping! That tranny is still in the car and aside from replacing bands and clutch friction plates when they wear out that tranny still churps in 2nd and 3rd gears when ever I get on it. I would say the B&M trans kit is well worth the money and the experience you get from going though the whole 727 will be in valuable down the road.
