Barracuda or Gran Fury?? Need help
 

Trying to decide which car to buy from either of two friends.One has a 67 Barracuda fastback. It needs work, quarters and trunk floor plus it needs a whole drivetrain. It is missing the rear window. On the plus side, it has a real sweet interior with a console mounted automatic and the rest of the body is not too bad. Originally a 273 car but not a
formula-S. (I got a rear to put in it and a 360 but need trans. Price:1300~
The other friend has a '86 Gran Fury cop car (more like a detective car).
It needs little to no work at all. Is low milage (car was sold to and used at a college in MO) 74,000 original miles. Mint interior, no rust, minor dents but it does have some tuning issues to work out. It also is a real copcar with sure grip and handling package. ( no gun rack, divider or spot lights though). Could use a paint job. (white) Price: 1000
I'm leaning towards the Fury cause the thought of a long term resto on an old barracuda (you would have to do it "right") is a bit intimidating. Plus, I'm not sure how long my "garage arrangement" is going to last. Also, I could use a good driver as the slant six in the power wagon is in need of serious help. (among other things).
Need help deciding.

It really all depends on your wants, needs and situation. At this point where I am finishing a 4 year restoration, I would say get the driver (I have spent wat too much time and money on the resto, I could have just paid for a done car and saved a lot of hassle). You have a car that does not need body work (yes, paint, but that can be done whenever), you have a car to drive, and no major cash outlay in the near future. And to top it off, it is a cool car at a very good price.

If you were to get the Barracuda, it would definitely be a cooler car, but way more work and money up front. Especially if you are not sure you will have a garage to work in, that might be another reason not to go for the Barracuda. The price for the Barracuda seems reasonable, but for your situation, the cop car seems like a wiser choice for now.

HUMMMMMMMM ...... You do have a major decision ahead of you. Do you want to play now or work now and have a hot rod later... For me and this is just my opinion.. I would go for the Barracuda in a flash... I have owned two 68's and still have one of them.. Now these were all out race cars and I know that is different. But, seeing a FB Barracuda doing a burnout is almost like heaven on earth...... But like I said that is just my opinion.... The best part of this decision is you can really not go wrong.... Either way you are going to have a bad arse Mopar.... And that is really all that matters!!!!!!!:D:D:D

if your a grandpa buy the gran fury to take the grandkids to church. :D if not buy up that barracuda faster then a chevy breaking down

I have always been a sucker for a cuda or a barracuda I just have never been able to afford the one I want.

thanks for input guys. Thought of a good idea, just get both of them. The guy with the cuda said he will work with me {payments}. so will the guy with copcar.
So, will get the cuda and get it running, maybe just do engine compartment paint job. Stash it away in a cheap storage garage. Might end up selling it as running project to someone with more body experience. I could do it but it would take forever mostly due to the cost of body shop supplies and I'm not too fast at doing bodywork.
The saga continues> will keep yall posted with whatever conspires. I'd hate to see a 67 cuda get parted out. {was the guys next option but, he knows Im into mopes so he really wants to sell me the car just so it will be saved. he is a chevy guy mostly}

I agree, fast back 67 to 69 cudas are like "instant hard-on" to a mopar freak. And I've got a set of widened rally's with tires mounted already that would look super sweet on the back. {L-60 M/T "I" tires} back in the 80's street racing days, these were the tire to have. We used to callem "dogbones" cause of the tread looked like milkbone dog treats.
I also got an 8 1/4 with a locker and 3.91 gears ready to bolt in. Also got an '89 360 hyd. roller motor. Think I'd put in a 904 with reverse pattern manual shift valve body for that street racin vibe. gotta have the 6 pack hood also. {someone stop me! I cant help myself......dammit......}

If the Cuda was an E body (yawn) that would be different; but an A body FASTBACK Barracuda? No "decision" to be made; especially when the alternative is a (gasp) 4 door! Any chance of getting both?

maybe I will get both. It will be a stretch though.

If you have a way to get both of them by all means do so. Enjoy the police car while restoring the Barracuda. After you've had them a while you will probably favor one over the other and you can keep the one you like best.

1) I am no Grandpa but I drive a Fury (but mine only has 2 doors!!! and is a B body, '78)
2) a Dart considered a "boat"? they were "compact" cars in their day!

back in the day they may have been compact but a 4 door today deff looks like a boat

I drive a B-body and I would consider it a mid size, but I am sure others would consider it a boat......but no so much as they see my tail lights disappear in the distance.:cool:

.......Hey guys, I might be goin' "Grandpa" on yo a$$es.
Just talked to dude with "Gramp-Fury" and he says he would be ready next week.... he almost went back on his word and was gonna keep the car but said just because it was for me, he would not change his mind.
I guess now I gotta get it. Guy at work still has the "Viagra-cuda" but since it will be there for a while, I think I can still "keep it up" in the "Gramp-Fury". (just not as often! LOL) Maybe sometime in the future when I am having some "problems", I will go and get the Viagra-cuda.
