BRAKES went out! Help!
So I was driving all over in my dart today, and all of a sudden, my brake pedal hits the floor. I was able to stop, get out....no leaks or anything. Get back in the car, the brakes pumped right up and felt like normal brakes all the way back to my house.
I did the back brakes last week, and a return spring looked questionable, but I took off the drum when I got home today and it wasn't broken. Anything else I should look for? No leaks in the lines or cylinders at all. Thanks guys! |
sounds like faulty master cylinder, when they went to the floor could you push hard on the pedal and the tires lock up?
|
Nope. They went to the floor and the car was still rolling. When I stopped it I pumped the pedal and they came back up.
|
Did you put new wheel cylinders in?
If yes, did you bleed them? I say bleed the system and go from there. |
I didn't put new wheel cylinders in. And there are no leaks. I got a rebuilt master cylinder for $20 and put it in, but now the brakes don't pump up at all, and barely stop the car.
I did bleed the master before i put it in. What should I do? |
Something I forgot to mention...When I bled the new MC, when I poured fluid in it instantly started dripping out of one of the holes. Is that supposed to happen? Is it possible i got a bad one?
|
bad seal,
|
so in other words i got a bad rebuilt cylinder yeah?
|
Yea pretty much, Put the old one back on and re-try unless there was something bad with the old one.
|
yeah the old one was shot....just barely got home that day haha.
i ordered a new one...my parts guy warned me about the rebuilt ones, but i was trying to save some cash. is that a common problem? |
