Building a healthy 318

Last fall I rebuilt my 318. It was bored .02, had the block square decked .01, and heads surfaced .008. It's a 90' so it was TBI, put a new cam in it to factory specs. It also retains the stock exhaust manifolds but is a little more free flowing from the manifolds out than it came from factory. Now the thing is giving me trouble and I feel like taking a sledge hammer to the computer.

I have decided to convert it to a carb setup but I'm still recovering from the expense of the rebuild last fall. So I don't want to spend money that I don't need to.

At this point I'm trying to pick a cam, manifold, and decide what to do with the heads.

This motor is in my RamCharger so I don't really care what hp/tq it has beyond 5,000 RPM as I doubt it will ever get that high. Being that it's a fairly small engine in a 5-6 thousand pound SUV with 31" tires, I do want to get some more power out of it, particulary in the low to mid rpm levels.

With that in mind...

It has a new but stock hydraulic roller cam in it, though I can't find the specs. And I have a new RV hydraulic tappet cam with .422 intake .444 exhaust with duration at .05 204* on intake and 214* on exhaust sitting on the work bench. Would either of these do me any good, if not what should I look for?

For the intake, I'm going to have to buy one, I want to run a 4 barrel. Do you guys have any ideas there?

Finally, the heads. Were the stock 90' heads much good? If not I also have a set of heads bolted to a late 60's 360 with a 2 barrel intake which appears to be all original but also in need of a complete rebuild. Would those heads do me any good? And if I used the 360 heads, what would happen to my Compression if I did not have them shaved?

Thanks,
Zac

This is my daily driver... I want her to be pretty smooth in traffic (don't mind a slight lope, as long as it does not die on me), willing to start on cold mornings, accept 87 octane fuel, not get upset in the summer when it is over 100* And I know, its an overweight top heavy monster, but I still expect it to get up and go when I floor it. I expect it to pull any normal sized trailer I may ever need to pull, and still return some decent milage.

Just found your thread. That cam sounds perfect for what you want, those 360's will have an oiling problem if put on a magnum block. Through block to rocker shaft versus through lifter and pushrod to stud mounted rocker.
