Question Buying a car with no title

Has anyone ever done this and gotten a title? What do you have to all do? I found a car at a decent price, but it has no title and I don't want it to be a giant piece of yard art.

This veries state by state. Some states just use a bill of sale. Check with your BMV and see what they say.

some will also issue a letter to the last person that the car was registered to. if they release it then they can title it to you

So what happens if they don't release it?

As long as you know it not stolen you can go on line to a couple of companys and they can get you one.its usally around $150 to $500 depending on the state. You send them the VIN and a signed paper and they put it in there name and then you take it to DMV .Its pretty easy If you need more info i have the companys name i used but will have to look.Hope this helps

In my state (Oregon), you can file for a lost title. Once they issue the title to you, you are good to go. I would get all the title stuff squared away before any money changes hands.

I bought my roadrunner and it was supposed to have a title but we never did see the guy again after the auction so we didnt get a title. We used Broadway Title Company and got a title for $150 since all you have to do in their state is have a bill of sale to get a title here.

Broadway Title Co will help you get the title for the car and all you will need is the vin number, look it up on the web and they will tell you if it is yard art {stolen, parts, ect.} or good to go

Ive bought several cars this way. In California we have a DMV. I usualy call them first, to run the vin and to find out who it belongs to. If everything looks ok, Ill go for it. In Oklahoma I had to call a TAG AGENCY. After I got a bill of sale from the seller. I went to DMV and they gave me a new tital. easy to do. Just make sure there no past fees on the vehicle. You dont want to pay $500 for something just to find out it has $2000 in fees at the registration office.
