500 is what they say is the max without checking the clearence but you have taken .40 off the total so I would be checking the clearence anyway. Also taking .30 off the decks you will have to do the intake have it seat properly. Been there done that.

I have 2 intakes that were done when the block was decked. My cam is a 507 lift. I have read people saying anything under 600 was fine. I have done put the engine together. I also read Mopar says 484 but read were people ran 509;s

The only other way I know,, how to check this is stick a solid lifter in, measure how far the valve goes down. Then bring the piston to top dead center and push the valve down till it hits the piston then measure that. or atleast way past my lift measurement.

Any thoughts on doing it this way.

I would put clay on top of the piston assemble it temporarily with the solid lifter and turn it over 2 times if the valve doesnt hit the clay your good to go. The gasket can be used again.NOTE: (Dont touque the head down to check clearance just snug it down) So you can reuse the gasket

Okay tried the way of pushing the valve down that worked out as good as a flat tire. Pulled the head off stuck putty on the piston and spun it.

Checked the block, the piston is 84 in the hole, Have no clue why the 30 was stamped on the deck. So here is what I have

Pistons 84 down in the hole
10 off the heads
90 ths clearance on the intake Valve
100 on the Exhaust

Good to go and have a clear mind now. This thing was built 20 years ago and only had a few hours of run time before the
guy died. The intakes came with the car and engine, I dont know if they were cut or not now. Isnt a stock 69 440s piston 91 ths in the hole

Low compression motor probably 8.5 to one The 509 cam would be better off with at leasta 10.5 compression.. It will run Ok just not optimized .030 probably means it was bored .030 oversized. You need more compression with that cam. I would bet it has a cranking compression of 100-110 psi Ideal
is 150 & up

I have stock felpro head gaskets, should I get different head gaskets. Whats a safe clearance on my valves if I run a thinner gasket. I dont have the 509 cam, But the cam I got specs want atleast 9.5

Tring to figure out whats up, Its a 69 440HP, I read a 69 HP had 10-1 on compr. Is a factory piston in a 1969 HP440 about 90 ths. down in the hole. Did the use of the Trw L2266 pistons lower the compr.

Seems like I am missing something here.

After searching the web and endless reading, it looks like I should have thrown them pistons in the trash can, Their was not even 4 hours of run time on them and everything was balanced.. Dont know weather to tear it back down or run it for a season. Street not drag.

After reading this all my questions got answered
