Cherry Bomb Glass packs vs. Flowmaters

Whats your opinion? Wich muffler do you preffer? Which do you think has a meaner sound?

bigsho 01-11-2010 09:51 AM

i got glasspacks on my 67 sport fury....cant stand the sound..hehe...i will be switching them out for some flowmaster super 40's this spring...just my opinion.

If you go to Flowmaster's website, they tell you what the interior and exterior dB is, of course these level will change from vehicle to vehicle. I've run a Flowmaster 40 series mufflers on a few different vehicles.

On my 00 Dakota I had a turn down right after it (ended just pas the cab) and it was annoyingly loud at times.

I've had a true dual exhaust on my 74 J10 that had headers into straight pipes into a set of 40s with turn downs. My God, I do not know what I was thinking, it was loud.

I also had one on my current DD, 01 Dakota with a stock exhaust. The interior noise was not bad because there was a resonator and a full tailpipe.

I wouldn't go with another one ever again though. On each one of my vehicles, that muffler only lasted 2-3 years, after that, they started to rot out.

The Delta 50 series has a nice tone to it and you barely hear it inside.

As far as Cherry Bombs go, you'll have to check your local law. Some states do not allow them.

I have fake Flo's on my car. I like the sound but will get better when I add Headers. My car came with new exhaust when I bought it.

I use Glass-packs on my 1954 Mercury and I love the classic old school sound. The glass-packs fit the car and I don't think that flowmasters would sound as good. As for my 1979 Ford truck, I have flowmasters on it and they sound great.

So I would have to save that it depends on the make of car and engine.

i like hooker aero chambers

xjonathanx 01-11-2010 07:30 PM

what hooker aero chambers? i didnt ask that. stick to the subject glasspacks or flowmasters. lol jk :)

If those are your only two choices, go with the Flowmasters. However, if you want to invest in a good system that will last AND sound better than practically any other system, go with Borla.

Well at least where I live cherry bombs are way cheaper than flowmasters and also illegal, lol. I had a cherry bomb on my buick before I sold it and it was so frikin loud that the car just sounded like it was broken. We put a flowmaster on my buddy's truck and I really like the way it sounds. If you just want noise, go with the glass pack, if you want that deep, throaty rumble, go with flowmaster or magna flow or one of them brands like that

johnthegoalie 01-13-2010 12:42 PM

bassani is the way to go if you want mean...

deadkelly 01-24-2010 02:48 AM

 sorry i've only had aero chambers & love the sound :D & i think by the way everybody smiles , nods , turns around & gives me the thumbs up i'd say they like them too ;-)

i been wondering what to put on mine i heard glass packs are pretty good but still not sure. all the flowmasters though seem to sound the same but they sound good. I heard some glass packs on a couple 340s they sounded pretty good

mitchs66 02-02-2010 07:43 PM

I wanted to run flow masters on the Belvedere, but as usual money was tight and the local exhaust shop ran my exhaust with glass packs for $200.00 and it sounds good (stock 318 and manifolds).

ROAD RUNNER 73 02-05-2010 08:55 AM

I got a set of flowmaster super 44's on my 73 roadrunner engineered from flowmaster specialy for muscle car applications and they top any glass pack mufflers the sound is awsome from the 440 it is definatly as they say on the box "the muffler for the outlaw generation" if you wanna turn some heads and make some noise on the streets flowmasters give you that unique one of a kind sound that no other can match or beat ...depends all on your prefrence i suppose they are more pricey but its worth every penny the first time you hear it fire up...atleast in my opinion lol ....keep on frappin fellas!!!! Mopar or no car

volaredon 02-08-2010 03:55 PM

go with the "longer" glasspacks and 2" exh (at least the tails, maybe bump the headpipes to 2-1/4 max) and you'll be fine. when new glasspacks are nice and mellow. I wouldn't use a flowmaster 40 if you paid me; a F-M 50? Maybe. 70? also maybe. BUT NEVER A 40 SERIES!
