Compatibility problem?
So back in December I had gotten a Rallye dashboard and instrument cluster from a 1974 Charger and just went to a mechanic to put it in on. After a week and a half he got the dashboard in but couldn't get the wiring for the cluster to work with the Plymouth we have. I also got a '73 charger cluster that didn't work either. He said that they can't work with the Plymouth. Is that true? I have a book that has the wiring diagrams of the clusters. The standard has a printed circut board and the Rallye isn't but looks the same as the clusters we have. So is it the way the car wiring is set up? Is there a way to get them to work?

Ya need to change the wiring harness under the dash to a rally cluster harness. You CAN use the existing wiring harness, but if you're paying a mechanic to do it, it's going to cost you mega bucks, cause it's real time consuming to chase wires and change them to work with the new dash.

Hey Duster! I haven been behind one of them yet, is it a bunch of loose wires that need to find their home? Or a multi-wire harness/connector that is "pinned-out" differently?

I can't really say, it just looks like a mess lol. Unfortunatley it looks like the mechanic chopped up some more wires too when I looked under there. I'll see about getting a picture by Sunday at the latest.

Well, if I ever can afford a parts car, with a standard dash, I'll make a conversion diagram. This seems to be a popular question out there. Or maybe if someone has one of the factory assembly manuals....?
