Compression Test - Results
I'm buying a compression tester and need to ask "one of those questions"...
The tester comes with 14mm and 18mm adapters, will this work with my 340? Thank you Joe. |
14 bro, it would be the same one you used for the cylinder leakdown test.

Thanks bud.
No leak down test, maybe your thinking of someone else. Thanks again Joe. |
'72 340. My '72 service manual says anything over 100 lbs is good with no larger than 40 lbs variance.
Cylinder Tested @ 1 125 2 130 3 130 4 30 :o 5 120 6 120 7 125 8 115 Knowing that I have a lot of oil accumulating in the air cleaner (w/ new PCV valve) and the engine temp is way up, does anyone think it is worth doing a leak down test? I don't have a leak down tester and would need to buy or rent one. Thank you Joe. |

Thanks Blue
Just got done with the second test, this time with a cap full of oil in the cylinder. Jumped the compression test up to 50 lbs from 30 lbs. Bummed out, I don't got this kind of money......... |
You are a good sport...you should have a  on number 4 cylinder instead of :o

Knowing there are so many variables it's hard to say, but what is a ball park figure for overhauling my 340 just using stock parts.
With the engine out of the truck what's a ball park, are we talking $100's, a $1000, more...... Thank you Joe. |
