Dodge Challenger Gears

Hello, I have a 1970 dodge challenger with 8-3/4 gears in the rear. I was wondering what is ur opinion on those gears, if there good bad? If there bad what would you recommend me changing them to.

Welcome to the forum, The 8 3/4 rear will be ok for even big blocks w/auto trans. A modified big block w/4 speed and sticky tires that 8 3/4 will surely be short lived, that's why ma mopar put dana 60's in w/440's,hemi's with 4speeds.

I agree totally.. The tranny is the difference...... Several of the guys are running an 8 3/4 in their Drag Paks but all to date are autos.... JMO....

Alright cool. I have a 4 spd so should I go buy some Dana rear gears?

With a strong 440

The factory installed a Dana 60 for that set up.

It's not stock. When I bought it, it had a 318 with a Colem shifter. Now it has a 4 spd with a 440.

Take off that 8 3/4 and sell it before you break it. See Cass also know as doctor diff, he can set you up with a good dana 60.

you can have the 8 3/4 built up to handle the additional power. that might be a cheaper route than finding a dana 60

Thank you for all you help people!

Unless you dumping the clutch the 8 3/4 should be fine. They did put the 8 3/4 behind Hemi Automatics so they are not a light weight rear. The Dana is stouter but is also heavier and more difficult to change gear ratios in.

Yeah I looked that up. But I think I'm going wit the 60 Dana just because I don. Want problems

Hey another question,
On a dodge challenger what suspension would you guys recommend to be good and have a lowered stance?
