FlowTech Purple Hornie Mufflers

Anyone running FlowTech's Purple Hornie Mufflers?

Looking at exhaust options, and was flirting with the idea of running these, got a feeling they would be loud as they would exit under the car below the seats!

yes they are loud but I would try to have them exit at least to the rear axle. or maybe out side the car in front of the rear tires. The fumes will get to you otherwise. Not much backpressure though . Might be alittle bit quieter if you install an H pipe.

with less back pressure, you'll need some good low end power. Low back pressure is great for high rpm running motors, not so much for daily drivers.

never have pipes end under the seats
the fumes get back in the car

I had the exhaust dump down 3" behind the cab on my 2000 dakota. Man was that thing loud w/flowmaster 40! Very little to no backpressure so my milage sucked.

maybe this is a newb question, but does backpressure increase fuel mileage?

backpressure increases torque
this is why flatheads have very good torque
decreasing backpressure is ok up to a point, ex. headers, but too much of it will decrease the efficieny of the motor

not nessecarily. your stock system is about as restrictive as you want to go. sometimes adding in a little better flowing exhaust system will actually help to increase the gas mileage. it all depends on the vehicle and motor though.

Thanks guys!

Going to keep it simple, run straight pipes to the back with a pair of cherry bombs, and maybe some chrome tips! The purple hornies looked cool, maybe next time!

how are you going to have the pipes done over the rear end?
try to keep it away from the brake line
