fuel gauge
 

My fuel gauge isnt working so I grounded the sending unit. Now the fuel gauge goes all the way past F. I know its not full. What would be causing that?

where should i put the ground wire on the sending unit?

Did you download the schematic that I suggested? According to the diagram, the ground for the sending unit grounds to the chassis, likely near the unit. It does not show it joining a ground bus or other path. Check this out "howstuffworks.com/fuel-guage1.htm" Idont know how to create a link so just type it in.

Did you get the brake light issue cleared up? Sounds like you got alot of gremlins in the car. Electrical can be intimidating, but is you follow the schematics one line at a time , you can work through it and save time, grief and money.

Do you know of a good resource to learn about electrical work/ scematics? I've got some work to do on the Cuda and have never touched electrical work

Those automotive electric books in the autoparts stores are a good, basic way to start. For most things you'll want a digital multi-meter [DMM], a test light, spare wire, alligator clips, terminal kit, heat shrink and a solder gun. A good schematic for the car is a must. Found some nice ones at classiccarwiring.com They come in color and are laminated. Dont be intimidated, its not as hard as it looks. soon you'll be the goto guy and can expect the 1am phone calls from YOUR friends!

well I figured the gauge out and I think the brake light prob. might be the switch, it dosent even look hooked up. the reverse light idk about.

what was the fuel gauge problem?

the sending unit is bad. I checked my brake switch closer and it is hooked up. It looks like something is missing though, the thing that the brake arm touches is real loose and if you push on the back it can fall out. I tried disconnecting the wire and running a jumper but the lights still didnt light. is there a better way to check?

Did you use a meter or test light? Did you print those schematic?
