Here in So-CAl.. When you buy a new car you get a 6 year pass without having to smog. Them after that you have to smog them every other year as per the odd or even of the last number of the vin number. The vehical has to have all the factory installed emission equipment that the car came with in order to even get it certed.
Then you have the ones that are 7 years old that you have to smog all the way back to 1977 that is the cut off. 1976 and back dont require a smog cert.
So if I need something like a carb for my truck 1977, You have to get one that is what is called CARB Certified for California Emissions and it has to have a label affixed to it at all times or the vehicle fails it's visual inspection for not having an OEM part. If you cant find a CARB cert-ed or OEM replacement, Your Done. However, If you want to install an aftermarket newer engine, like a 2012 5.7 Hemi, You have to use all the smog and emission testing for that year and see a state referee to rite off on it. But it must run cleaner and have all the required Smog equipment on the vehicle for that year engine. And if you try to go backwards you must meet the year make and model of the vehicle your smogging.
So every other year, I have too get a smog check, They, Look at the truck, and make sure it has all the rite parts, and then it goes for a sniff testing, and if all is good, i get some new tags for the next two years.
That kid of it in a nut shell with the non-OBD2 stuff.

Yep.... Good to go. For the most part.. Only need to smog that when you change owners or changing states for plates...

This is a few years old.... But you will get the picture.... Fun Stuff....

Sounds like a pain in the backside to me. I suppose it keeps repair shops in business. The price you pay to live in paradise. Yes I'm writing this from northwest Ohio in sub-zero weather. Here we just wait for a good southwest wind and export our foul air over lake Erie into Canada.

Five, It is a pain in the butt. It use to be that we had a year roll up program then you didnt have to smog, But one of our Governors "Arnold" put the cubash on that.. At one point we had to do all of our car from current model year all the way back to 1965.... Yep you read it rite... "1965"
Back in the 1970's we had a smog issue here in CALI. But with running all the industrial businesses out and Strict Smogs and enforcement... Now all we have are fore's....lol
Anyways, I have been able to keep mine on the road with allot of work and TLC. But man is it hard.

It was nice here today... 77* No rain or snow in the forecast,

Ohio is a busy place... Lots of work but I here the is not all that great?

As For CAli and the price's.... Yep everything is high here.... Taxes are like a rocket.... But we pay for the year round weather... 100% the best....
Everything and I mean Anything you want to do is only the Max of a 2 Hour Drive away... Pick something and we got it around at some point.

Cheers

Out the end of my driveway and I'm on the snow and cold, with the biggest smile on my face, guess i'm just weird that way.

Yep.. Got that too. A short drive up the mountain and your there. Good for the morning. Then head home and load up the dirt bikes and head to the dunes.
It is just crazy what you do here.

Super crappy weather here. Looking for the Eagles to win tomorrow. My oldest son comes Sunday from Alberta, very excited about that. My Nephew is getting married next weekend, a wedding I'm actually looking forward too.

Well.. Good evening y'all... Hope you are all having a great work week? This is my Friday, Got lots going on here at the house. Wife is feeling down in the dumps with an illness. So got to take care of her !!!
It has been a littler cooler and hot a times around here... 80* today, but tomorrow will be a high of 68*. Thats a large swing in temp for us... Lots of folks sick here in SO-CAL. Seems we all have some type of head cold or something going around.
I'm off to buy a new washer and dryer... Mine took a dump and I'm tired of fixing them.. Have a good one, Yack at Y'all this weekend....
What are you up too?

Morning. Had yesterday and have today off with Wife and son here from Alberta.

Removed C4 Corvette crossmember with front suspension to make tube front frame, possibly with fabricated jig to retain mounting point geometry and not cut stock frame. This way we can remove roll cage without destroying frame and crossmember for sale and recoop money for the expensive DOM tubing and 4 link brackets I'll be ordering.

Snowmobile trails are mostly closed in Ontario so if we can't go the 27th then it will be a week of race car building with Son. Maybe even get back to do some work on my Coronet as everyone outside of the family says I should work more on my own things and less on other peoples projects.

So it's weld quarter panels on an old Dodge or build a race car, um let's see....oh I choose race car.

Good morning all. Went to start the XJ up and make sure battery had charge before an oncoming snow storm and found the battery dead. Tried charging it overnight to no avail. Had to replace the battery. In typical fashion I found a way to make some upgrades here. I started pulling all the wiring I had run out. There was 40 ft of 2g wire, 20 ft of 4g, 60 ft of 10g and a ridiculous amount of 16g. Will start on upgrades and begin rewiring electronics today and hopefully have it wired up next weekend when the last parts arrive. I am excited because this has been bugging me for a while now. When it is done I will post a write up and pics in build thread. Whatchyall working on this weekend?

I will have to push myself today if I want to build, just worried about my math with a foggy head. triple check all measurements. Glad I didn't go way north snowmobiling this week.

Yesterday got frame rails in, cut off Corvette frame and jig welded for front suspension attachment points. Need to get front down tubes bent and I was just now going to call a local stock car fabricator to see when they can do it.

Thought I felt better middle of the night then woke up like crap.
